This morning the alarm was set for 6:00. I really didn't want to get up that early, but I had a long list of things that had to be done before we left for exercise at 8:00.
I was burrowed into the covers, surrounded by my favorite pillows, hoping for a little more sleep when the radio blasted me with "I'm lovin' it!"
I don't know about you, but I think that ad campaign for McDonald's STINKS!! I don't care for the rap style presentation, and I don't care for the message, either. It's clearly aimed at very young, very juvenile listners.
Gone are the days of "Hold the pickle, Hold the lettuce, Special orders don't upset us," or "Have it YOUR way." Those of you who are a little older may remember "You deserve a break today," or you might be able to sing the entire jingle that starts out "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese...."
I equate the "I'm lovin' it" campaign with the 501 Jeans commercials and the car commercials that don't talk about their product. This campaign is not about loving McDonald's. It's about being KEWL! It's about image, not the product, and, it's been my experience that those commercials that talk about the image of the buyer don't have a lasting impact, because the buyer can't remember what the product is!
Lines like "Where's the BEEF?" or "Nut'n'Honey!" or "Atsa spicy meatball...", or even "AFLACK" are memorable, and they help you identify the product, rather that getting you to buy the product because YOU are kewllllll. I suppose that it is commentary on the crappy quality of our products, that we have to avoid describing them, and focus on the buyer instead.
I'm shifting my radio over to the alarm. I don't want to hear "I'm loving it" first thing in the morning any more.

...pickles, onions in a sesame seed bun...and if you could say it in under 2 seconds you got a free big mac with the one you paid for :^)...oh, I hate the adverts as well - we have them over here to...but I think they aren't aimed at us :^)...

Sounds like a very annoying way to wake up... you either need a new radio station, or maybe Santa could get you a CD Alarm? Then, you choose who you wake to.
oh... I do remember the "2 all beef patties, special sauce... " Oh.. what about "Big mac, Fillet of fish, Quarter pounder, French fries...
icy coke, thick shake, sundaes and apple pie" (recited quickly and kind of in a tune) I liked that, it was catchy and gave an overview of the products (at the time).

These new commercials are enough to turn me into a vegetarian. PETA is enough to turn me into a carnivore. Getting up before noon is enough to make me subject my coworkers to my morning persona, which is not unlike someone with a pickle stuck where no pickle ever wanted to be. Definitely alarm time!

Mc Donalds has always been a little on the fruitcake side. As long as I've been alive, anyway. Mc Donalds "I'm Lovin' It" is really annoying... Especally when I get the song stuck in my head during math. :( Math is bad enough without thinking, "Ba ba ba ba ba... I'm Lovin' It..." And that's what I think about when I eat Mc Donalds. I say... their food is terrible... Burger King is better. There's is more on the burger. Mc Donalds is also... well, I found a cockroach in the bathroom once. Isn't that terrific? O_o

Hold the Pickle, hold the lettuce commercial was Burger King not McDonald's. They were the originator of special orders don't upset us. Now they have sort of gone back to that with the Burger King Bill of Rights.

(red faced) Clare....my husband agrees with you! It seems I knew the ad, but not the company running the ad. Right now, Dear Husband is trying to remember the ad that McDonald's was running at the time.
Thanks for setting me straight!
