Windows Hints

Do you have a Windows Keyboard? Perhaps, like me, you don't know how some of the keys work. I came across a list of functions that can be performed with the keyboard rather than the mouse, and thought I'd share the list with you.

Windows + R - Opens the "Run" dialog box
Windows + E - Windows Explorer
Windows + F - Find files or folders
Windows + BREAK - shows System Properties dialog box
Windows + F1 - Windows Help
Windows + D - minimize all open windows and show desktop
Windows + TAB - Cycle through taskbar buttons
Windows + M - Minimize all
Windows + SHIFT + M - Undo minimize all

Pressing the Windows key alone will display the Start Menu.

If you have a key to the right of the space bar with a design that looks like words on a piece of paper, that key is the "Application" key. It is a shortcut for right clicking. It will display an item's shortcut menu.

...ooooo...I never knew...of course you do know that I will instantly forget all that and stick to what I normally do :^)....wha'chu mean I'm an old dog :^P...

COOL!! Now if I can just remember all that.

I figure if I'm going to learn them, I have to use one a day, and consistantly use the keyboard version instead of the mouse. I'd rather use the mouse, but haven't you had days when the mouse wouldn't cooperate??

...yeah, but when the mouse doesn't work, I unscrew it and clean all the fluff off the 'wheels' inside :^)...

Is it just me, or is anyone else afraid to use the Windows + BREAK?

...hahahahahahahahaha...brilliant bogie :^)...I hadn't the list read that carefully - and there's you saying you don't make with the funnies :^)...timing is everything :^)...

Buffy:

(Applauding) Good one, bogie! *G*

So, is it possible to password protect a normal file on XP that's not a zip/compressed file? It used to be possible when there was a DOS, but not with XP (so I hear).

Any ideas?

it's nothing solid, or it isn't airfare fully Right. That's weird for me
