Black Friday

I am NOT silly enough to be out in the mad crush of shoppers. I don't find anything about the idea appealing. If I had my way, I wouldn't go out at ALL today, but I have library books to return. I can't imagine why anyone would want to go out and stand in line after line, with harried clerks trying to move shoppers through, with little or no staff on the floor to help answer questions, and not enough asphalt in the world to hold all the cars that need to park.

Do you get the idea that I'm not much of a shopper? You'd be right. My concession to the day will be to drag out some of the MILLION catalogs that have flooded in over the last two months, and browse for ideas for gifts.

I plan to have a relaxed day. I'll ask DH to build us a nice little fire, and I'll wrap up in a quilt, and have a mug of tea within reach. I'll play CDs and blog and read and generally do nothing! There is NO sale so important that I would participate in that madhouse.

Now, if you were going to go out, rethink your position. It's not worth your life to be out there! I bid you a sane day.

Well done!
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving.

I was sure we thought alike on this subject, BW! Thanks for the kind wishes.

And here's another who thinks like you, Buffy. I hate shopping even on quiet days -- a catalogue is nice -- goes good with coffee, toast, slippers, and my housecoat.

I stayed home except the brief foray into town to get gas, coffee (people gas), and sulfadene (for an itchy dog). even on benign days I don't wish to be shopping - never mind Back Friday!

Cop Car:

I spent a major portion of yesterday at the local nursing home--going about my ombudsman duties. There were many family members there visiting the residents, and I was privileged to meet a few of them. (There were babies and dogs there--always a welcomed addition for the residents.)

Our library was closed, yesterday. Glad that you found yours open!

buffy:

Do you sense that we have formed a sisterhood here? Way to go, Roberta, with the housecoat and toast! Bogie, I only went out because the books were due, and I bet you might have stayed home if you hadn't needed the sulfadene. Cop Car..YOU have the best reason of all for being out. Bless you!

Shopping is not so severe here in Canada. I was shopping yesterday, Friday, with my eldest - the crowds were not bad. We went while the majority of kids were still in school.

How fortunate you are, Des. I tend to shop early in the morning in the middle of the week. But this time of year, even those times are a bit busier. I'd be a happy camper if I could do all my shopping on-line.

Cop Car:

Right on, Sister! Even though I did leave the house, I never got more than 2 miles from home.

Susan:

My sentiments exactly!
I have always tried to get my Christmas shopping done and finished BEFORE Thanksgiving. I hate the traffic, the parking and the car accidents. When the kids were little I did all the toy store shopping right after Labor Day!
I am thankful for catalogs and online shopping now and encourage everyone to use both as much as possible.

Your day sounds delightful!

I ventured out to a few stores, they weren't bad at all I was suprised. However, I refused the mall area!!!! I saw that on the news and I wasn't even going to venture there ~ however I did learn that online the same sales were going on *smile*. I also am finished with my Christmas shopping *big grin*

buffy:

I can't believe so many of you are READY!!! (Makes me want to say "BITE ME, Jamie!") I'm going to have to get serious about shopping on-line. I've caught the family cold and feel wretched. I'm NOT going out unless it's absolutely necessary!

Buffy - you are right, I only ventured out Friday because of the dog - and I knew nobody was going to be in Hillsboro anyway (they all go to Concord or Manchester to get any real shopping done). I ventured out Sunday (to Hillsboro) to do grocery shopping. That was the extent of my getting out of the house for 4 days.

I am pretty much done shopping. I did most of my shoppig online over the weekend. There are only a couple more small things to get, and then I will officially be done.
