I've been watching the light the last few days. We're trying to adjust to being back to Central Standard Time, and I've used the time change to make an adjustment to my sleeping hours.
Dear Husband goes to bed at 9:00 (barring long World Series games!), and I'll align my sleeping times to his. But, I'll stay up a night or two to read, and then blogging calls to me one night and office work the next, and gradually I find that I am off schedule by as much as three or four hours. Morning becomes an agony rather than the pleasure it should be, and I rush to make it to exercise. It's particularly hard on Elegante Mother, who needs a regular schedule, and plenty of time to get where she's going.
So, I decided that I would get up each day this week as Dear Husband is ready to leave our bedroom, to get an early start on my days. I have several reasons that make this a smart choice. First, the roofers are coming next Monday. I need to be ready for them when they arrive, not just getting out of bed.
And, Thanksgiving is coming. At this house, that means getting to the Spring cleaning. (I'll let you ponder whether I'm doing this year's Spring cleaning, or next year's.) For some reason, it seems that I get much more done if I start my day early, rather than trying to play catchup, so I can schedule a project for each morning, and get things finished painlessly.
And, I'm trying to change eating habits. I can't eat breakfast and run, so the extra time in the morning is helping me fit in a healthy breakfast, which in turn makes it easier to eat a healthy lunch, because I'm not starved by 11:00 in the morning. Yesterday, I was able to by-pass fast food because I'd had a good breakfast, and that had a virtuous feeling to it!
Of course, there's a lot to be said about getting enough sleep at regular times. DH is diabetic, and one of the things I've discovered in my reading is that a diabetic needs roughly eight hours of sleep every day, and those hours need to be at the same time each day. DH has been bad about going to bed late and getting up early for the 21 years I've known him. Just this year he has made the commitment to get enough sleep, and I'd like to support his choice. Besides, it's good for me, too.
So, the past few days I've been watching the world change as the sun comes up. Between the time I rise and 5:45 it's darker than the inside of a cat's tummy. There's the merest change and I can begin to make out the shape of trees. The sky brightens just a bit more, and then closer to 6:00 there's a blast of color on the horizon. This morning it looked like a molten wash of raspberries with the promise of gold to come. The sky was getting brighter as I headed for the shower, and fifteen minutes later the first of the low rays of the sun blessed the trees.
That's a pretty good reason for starting a day off early. It's rather like my own personal fireworks display. It's time to make the changes.

Mornings can be wonderful if we can take the time to appreciate the changing light. It's great that you are now watching the light.

I didn't get quite enough sleep last night (I worked in the office until eleven), but that sunrise made up for it! It really makes a wonderful start to a busy day.

I have gotten to see the sun come up this week just as I'm getting to work. Of course, here in a couple weeks it will still be dark well after I get to work, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

Bogie, Dear Husband is like a mole....a good part of the year he goes to work in dark and comes home in the dark. I'm sure he looks forward to the longer days despite the heat they bring.
