Yeah...I know the Sox won the World Series last week. I've been meaning to write about it every day. Eighty-seven years. Do you believe that the White Sox had to wait 87 years to win another World Series?
I watched all four games. The second one, the one that went fourteen innings was amazing. How could a game be SO slow, and SO dull, and have SO much tension?? After midnight, it was a fight to keep my eyes open. The fourth game, they won by the only run batted in the entire night.
Lest you think I'm complaining, I'm not. Congratulations, guys! You earned those wins, and the right to bask in the sunshine of long awaited success.
What I found odd about the entire thing is that a large portion of Chicago sees this as a SOUTH SIDE Chicago win, not a CHICAGO win. There are old-time, hardcore White Sox fans who believe that a Cubs fan shouldn't be allowed to root for the Sox, or have any pleasure in their winning of the Series. Mayor Daley, who is a notorious supporter of the White Sox arranged a celebratory ride through seven SOUTH neighborhoods of Chicago.
I realize some Cubs fans might have felt their noses were being rubbed in it, if the Sox had traveled through the northern suburbs, but I don't see what the city has to gain by encouraging that attitude. I doubt seriously that Daley was elected only by South side votes. What better way to draw the city together than to encourage everyone to celebrate a wondrous win? I'd say they missed a chance.
By the way, did you happen to notice that the White Sox, da Bears and the Blackhawks all won on the same day?? GO CHICAGO!!!
