Snowing Petals

The apple trees, and pear trees have been beautiful this year, covered with masses of blossoms. We had quite a heat spell early in April, but the last 10 days of the month it's been unusually cool. The tulips are gorgeous, and the lilacs have been holding their bloom unusually long.

Today, the wind is whipping the fruit trees, and we have petal snow.

I noticed, as we returned home today that the lilies of the valley under the birch trees have materialized! I think they must be easily six to eight inches tall, and there was no sign of them a few days ago.

When we moved here, I thought sure that I would get some of the masses of lilies-of-the-valley transplanted. Either I didn't, or I forgot where I planted them and they died. I bought some the other day, but haven't yet poked them into the ground. When HH and I said "I do" the first time, we had lily-of-the-valley corsage/boutonnieres. Enjoy yours for me!

Love tulips...reminds me of London in Spring.

I love petal snow. Sounds like I missed a beautiful spring. Thanks for describing it for me.

Cop Car, I think lily of the valley for wedding flowers is an elegant idea. They not only look lovely, they have a heavenly scent.

Doc, I'd love to see London in the Spring. I'll try to get some photos of the tulips before the chipmunks dine on the bulbs this summer.

Susan, it's been outstanding this year. That mass of cold Canadian air has extended the bloom period for most of the shrubs and tulips. Now that the wind is picking up, it's almost like a scene from a Disney production! Hopefully, you'll be outside for the peony and iris stage this year.

Have you noticed the lovely mosaics that the petal snow makes on a clear bit of ground? As it had been raining, Saturday, there was a bare bit of mud showing at the corner of the sidewalk at the Post Office that had a gorgeous mosaic from the pear tree petals. Lovely. That must be where artistic types got the idea of creating mosaics of their own--years and years and years ago.
