Yummmmmmmmm!!!!
I'm having lunch, and I need to thank Cop Car and HH for it! Usually the term "leftovers" has a terrible connotation to it, but that's not the case today. I'm eating Country Rigatoni. I was served so much last night that I brought at least half of it home, and I'm happy to tell you that this is one of those dishes that's even better the second day!
Thank you, both for a great dinner, and even better company!
We did the grocery shopping today. I usually shop twice a week now because we're eating more fresh fruits and veggies. I had to clean out the fridge to make room for the new food, and it focuses the thought that I need to either freeze leftovers, or start cooking less food.
I have to throw away a container of beef stew. Granted, it was on the salty side, so probably freezing it would have been a waste, but so was storing it in the fridge. One of DH's favorite meals is pork chops and browned rice. We don't prepare it often, because we're trying to cut back on carbs, but I needed something soft to eat last week when I had a filling replaced. I ate mostly rice, and he ate mostly pork chops. So....I had a container of that waiting to be frozen or pitched.
Dear Husband brought home a salad he had picked up for dinner on Friday night, while he was getting the Arr!! ready to come home. That's going to be pitched. And, I have a serving of deli coleslaw that has to go.
Last week I made a 13 bean bouillabaisse with shrimp, and there were TWO containers of that taking up space in the fridge. I would have had some of that for lunch if the Country Rigatoni hadn't been calling to me. So, I suppose that will get pitched, too.
We simply need to cook in smaller quantities. Or, we need to eat more left overs! Short of that, I'll be taking reservations.....

Just get some hens. They eat all leftovers and turn them into yummy eggs :)

Every time I have to throw a bit of meat out, I miss Defer. I didn't realize how much people food we must have given him.
And when you have chickens, you always have nitrogen for your compost pile!

We freeze a lot of leftovers, but some weeks our fridge is like yours and we end up throwing out a lot more food than I would like.

First time visitor - I'm just taking a blog walk.
I have to go grocery shopping tonight, the horror. We do a lot of freezing leftovers at my house, too. I enjoy cooking but sometimes it's nice to know that a good, homemade meal is already there, just waiting to be thawed and heated.

Buffy--The pleasure of the visit was (from my perspective) all mine. Thanks for putting up with me, for leading us to a couple of terrific restaurants, and for making sure that we got stuffed at the brunch. Please convey to your mother and your DH how much their presence added to HH's and my enjoyment. You have a wonderful family. (And it was our pleasure to grab the bill for dinner!)

We really enjoyed your visit, Cop Car! It's a testament to how interesting you are, that Dear Husband hung out with us as we chatted! *G*
I'm assuming that you made it home safely. We hope if you are ever in our neck of the woods again, that you will beat a path to our door! Thanks for a great visit.

I thought it charming of Dear Husband to put up with us, Buffy. I enjoyed his inclusion and would vote to include him--anytime! You two are a grand pair.
