Widowhood....again!

The Arr!! disappeared down the drive a few minutes ago. I am officially a boat widow for the next five months.

Yesterday I was having a dreadful day in the office. The phone rang constantly, interrupting all I was trying to wade through, and the fax machine kept spewing paper at me. My sister called to say that she could get away earlier than she thought....could she come to dinner after all?

In the midst of all this, I get another call, and it's Dear Husband, who is outside, working on the boat. He was having the kind of crisis that would leave me wringing my hands and fretting in a major way, but he calmly asked if I had a moment to help him.

I walked out to the driveway to see the boat hitched up to the fourteen foot stakebed truck, which in turn was chained to the Terex, a machine used for lifting heavy loads. The boat, and the truck, were sitting on the back lawn, and the Terex was on the gravel drive.

Wednesday afternoon we FINALLY got some much needed rain. It rained fitfully Thursday during the day, and Thursday night and Friday we got the gentle, consistant rain that made the grass and trees and my gardens go AHHHHHHHHH!But....that same rain also made the ground so boggy and slippery that DH had mired the truck a foot or two short of the driveway, boat attached. He proposed that I was to drive the truck, and he would use the Terex to give the truck an assist.

I was scared to death that I would find the traction I needed and run right over my husband with the truck and boat. Of course, the BOAT was what would keep me from doing that, but I wasn't thinking clearly about it at the time . The lead in the keel is sufficient to make for slow starts.

We succeeded. He knew just what to do to get the boat onto firmer ground. Unfortunately, we now have potholes in the drive that go to China, and gouges on part of the lawn. I'm betting they will still be there when CopCar and HunkyHusband come to visit in the Fall. After all, it IS sailing season!

So, we were up before dawn this morning to finish loading the boat. The sailors made tea and coffee, and collected their layers of clothing and foulies, and were off.

I watched for the first few seconds and then turned away as DH negotiated the dogleg in the drive. I was waiting to see if he was taking any of the trees with him this year.

Dear Lord, please watch over my family and bring them safely back to me. The boat, you can keep.

Cop Car:

Now, let me get this straight: You hesitate to run over DH? Has he no insurance?? Drat! Well, I'm about 11 years too late to commit mayhem on HH since he too is without insurance now that he's retired.
If you haven't already done so by the time we arrive, we can get HH to assay the holes to China by using his GPS. (Assuming that the holes are not deep enough to block all receipt of signals from the satellites, of course!)

Buffy:

I KNEW those drugs were fogging my brain. He has plenty of insurance and I just missed my chance! Drat!

We have a spare GPS here....or three. Maybe if I could get DH near the edge....and give him just a LITTLE help....
