Tall Bearded Iris

There's been talk of Iris at Bogie's blog. She's blessed to have a mother who shares her plants. This Spring Cop Car will visit and they will plant iris descended from plants in Bogie's grandmother's garden.

I couldn't resist sharing a picture of my iris. I counted last year, and there are more than twenty varieties.

The HUGE white tree/shrub at the house is a viburnum. The landscaper SWORE it would simply fill up the space between the windows. Much to my disgust, we'll have to have it taken out.

What a beautiful garden!!

The Irises are so gorgeous. As far as the tree, I'm like you. No matter how pretty the blossoms, no matter how sweet the smell, if it blocks the sunlight in my windows, it has to go. Lovely pic. Thanks for sharing it.

Cop Car:

Stunningly beautiful, Buffy! They could put that picture in the iris catelogue! As to the viburnum, I had the opposite advice: Was I sure that I wanted a plant in that spot that could get so huge? Having had a leather leaf viburnum during the last several years at our last home I was well aware of the need to keep one under control by religiously removing (at ground level) those branches that are taller/wider than I want the bush to be.

Roberta, those half round windows on either side of the viburnum let light into my mother's sitting room and bed room. She really needs the light, and minds having the view obscured. The shrub has beautiful blooms, so I'll wait until it's bloomed, and then have it pulled. I think we'll replace it with one of the weeping shrubs that are suited to our zone.

Thanks, Cop Car! This particular tree has a few suckers, but most of what you're seeing is upper branch development. Still....we needed to prune more severely when it was young.
I'm going to miss it, and I regret that I might have saved it if I had been better informed.

Nice place...and I would leave the HUGE white shrub alone.
