I was cutting down the peonies today, and I never garden without listening to the radio. The news was on, and I was sort of paying attention to the report. I'm sure that I heard them say that the Illinois General Assembly voted today not to give illegal aliens legal driver's licenses.
First of all, why in the world were they voting on this issue?? When we have such pressing matters concerning the residents of this state, why are we at all concerned with documenting someone who is here illegally? And WHY are we not packing them off to detention when they apply?
I know.....to be politically correct I should be calling them undocumented persons. In these times when we are so concerned about "Undocumented persons" within our borders, what possible reason could we have to discuss giving them legal driver's licenses??
Please tell me that I heard that wrong, that I missed the boat, and that I need to apologize. Otherwise, it's time to vote the jerks OUT!

I am interested in knowing if what you heard is reported again, or if this was a one-shot report (as happens with news that embarasses people in power; did I say that out loud?). Our countries share this problem and again, I am thankful I don't have to fix it. Not every criminal is "undocumented"; not everyone without papers is actually a criminal. But in the rush to care for those who arrive by alternative means, we (as a society) step on the heads and hands of those who built the countries that others want to live in.

I wouldn't doubt that you heard correctly, after all, that's what they did in California.
Driving is a privilage, not a right. Privilages should only be granted to those that are here legally. And no, the aren't undocumented - they are ILLEGAL aliens.

I totally agree, Essay, and Bogie. I'm willing to give a hand to anyone who wants to be here legally. I'm not willing to assist someone who flaunts our laws, and puts themself above those of us who pay our dues. Freedom and an improved standard of living come with responsibilities attached. If you are unwilling to follow the law, don't expect to be granted privileges.

An undocumented, illegal alien is a criminal, breaking the laws of the U.S.A. Driving is a privilege earned, not a right even to legal residents and citizens.
With terrorists hiding within our midst, the least we can do is rid our streets of illegal aliens whenever the are found. They should be incarcerated in prisons or detention camps where they are not able to make money to send back to their families in Mexico, etc. Put them to work in the penal system, with wages charged back for the cost of their care. Perhaps the flow might slow down. Just sending them back over the border isn't a deterrent for coming back again, illegally.
