Happy Birthday, Harley

This year is the 100th Anniversary of the Harley-Davidson Company, creators of an American icon. Harley's have a signature sound that other motorcycles can't seem to recreate, a deep rumble that announces you are in the presence of a HAWG.

While our general image of a Harley rider is a big, beefy, tattooed guy with a ratty pony tail and a dirty bandana, a black leather jacket and black boots, the truth is that the average Harley owner is a 46 year old guy who makes about $78,000 a year.

You can buy a Harley for as little as $6,000, but the upscale touring Harley's go for $19,500. Just think, you could get a Mercury Grand Marquis for that....and have plenty of trunk space and not have to worry about your hair, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun.

This weekend, Harley owners are descending on Milwaukee to celebrate the anniversary. No one knows how many riders are planning to attend, but the figure of 250,000 has been bruited about. So, if you see lots of Harleys streaming past you.....shout "Happy Birthday!" and wave them on!

My mother n law and her hubby are there!!! They seem to be having a grand ol' time ~

Too bad the Wonderful Spouse spent all his vacation time going to Sturgis!

I've always wanted to be one of those gnarly Harley guys. I keep threatening Mrs. Hook that we'll get one and hit the road as soon as these boys are raised.
