The chili sauce is in the pot, bubbling away. I got up at 5:30 to get things started, and had all the ingredients laid out, tomatoes weighed, and pots washed, when my mother walked into the kitchen. She has my cold, the one I'm not quite over, that's lasted 15 days.
Making the chili sauce on my own was no problem. What I'm more concerned about is that Mother has this dreadful cold. I'll have to keep a close eye on her for the next two weeks to be sure that it doesn't roll over into something more serious. I gave her my bottle of Vitamin C, and recommended lots of warm liquids and anti-inflamatories. I may check in with my-sister-the-nurse, just to be safe. I wonder if there are books on how to care for your aging parents?
Yesterday, Dear Husband and I went to breakfast together, and then he left for a weekend on the boat. The Chicago Air and Water Show is on this weekend, and he wanted to get to the parking garage before the spaces closest to the marina were taken. He should have a front row seat for at least the Air portion of the show. Boaters will be steered away from the portion of the lakefront where the Water Show will take place.
I went to the Farmer's Market and shopped for the chili sauce ingredients, did some errands, had a hair cut, and then came home to a quiet house. Since Mother and I were dining alone, we had a simple supper last night, and then I played on-line for a while.
We were in a severe thunderstorm watch from 3:30 to 9:00 last night, but nothing came of it. It's about 8 degrees cooler today, but still in the low 80's, so I needed to water the container garden at the front door. I was going to weed, but I'll save it for the early morning hours this coming week.
My life is incredibly quiet right now, but it's going to warm up a little. We are hosting a bridal shower for one of my nieces. I want the gardens to be at their best, and the house to speak well of us. It helps that we did so much this Spring, getting ready for my step-daughter's wedding, but I still have things to do.
That's the news, or lack of it, from the Midwestern front. I hope you all have a great week!

Billy, you came in late. I DO make chili. I have a recipe that's not written down, and the ingredients change in amounts each time I make it, but CHILI SAUCE is not what you think it is. This is a slow cooked sauce that has tomatoes, onion, green pepper, celery, vinegar, cinnamon, cloves, salt and dry mustard in it. It's rather like a salsa that has been cooked down too far, and it's used with roast pork. I'll try to keep track of how I make chili and post that for you some day.

Can I come over for chili at Buffy's one day??
I have had it before and it was quite good...not at your house of course.
Hope Mother perks up. You have the right idea with the remedies.... and chicken soup helps as well. If it seems to linger though, don't hesitate to take her to a doctor, things can be pretty subtle in the elderly. (Please don't think I'm trying to alarm you, just giving some on line advice to a blog pal, that's all.) :-)

Thanks, Dr. D. I appreciate the advice. We keep a close eye on Mother to be sure that simple problems don't get away from us. I had her speak with my sis today. Sis is an experienced geriatrics nurse, and she knows what kind of patient Mother is. I appreciate having the backup. *S*

Yummm. I love chili and chili sauce. I have a pretty good recipe for chili, is the sauce made more or less the same way? I like to make chili in the winter when it gets, relatively as I live in Miami, cooler outside.
Hope your mom gets well soon.
