But......
My sister has a mouse in her dishwasher. They don't know how he got there, or if he is capable of getting outside. When they open the dishwasher, he runs to the corner and disappears. There was some discussion of the port where the water exits, and the fact that it must share a communal pipe with the kitchen sink. Other than that, they have no clue how he comes and goes. They don't know if he's trying to get out, or if he's trying to make it his new home. Dear Husband suggested putting one of the cats in the machine, and turning it on.
Elegante Mother fell this morning. Nothing seems to be hurt other than her pride. I think we may have to get her one of those devices that allows her to call for help when we are sleeping. To assuage her angst at having fallen, Dear Husband bought chocolate covered éclairs at the bakery. I assumed (you know what they say about assuming things...) that the éclairs were for dessert. As I walked past Elegante Mother, checking to see if she was all right, she was reading the newspaper. She dipped it when I spoke to her and I realized she couldn't respond due to the mouthful of éclair she was eating! AND.....as I passed through the kitchen, I realized that there was not one, but TWO of the éclairs missing. You KNOW who ate the other! (And, it wasn't me!)
Ed, our fifteen year old cat, doesn't care for cold weather any more, so he was delighted when the temperatures rose into the forties this week. We still have fog, and the snow is melting. It seems rather wet and drippy out, but to Ed, it's the perfect day to go hunting. He runs out the door about thirty feet and plops his butt on the edge of the sidewalk, and takes up this petrified stance facing the garage wall and a hole in the ground. He seems to think a chipmunk is going to come out of that hole sooner or later, and he plans to be ready to greet him. Do you think it's too late for me to explain the concept of hibernation to Ed??

So glad Elegant Mother wasn't hurt Buffy. That would have put a big dampter on Christmas for you all.
A mouse in the dishwasher...pretty brazen little guy. I wonder where he runs to when your sister is doing a load of dishes.
Have a beautiful holiday sweetie.... ~Joy

I'm staggered at the thought of a mouse in the dishwasher. Has the machine been turned on since it was discovered in there? Doesn't it get hurt or drowned.
Don't let Nimrod know that dishwashers are another potential homes for mice. I can just imagine him...
I winced at the though of Elegant Mother's fall as before mine was confined to bed we frequently had scares like that. I'm so glad that EM wasn't hust at all becase she is of an age when bones can break relatively easily. I have to admit that we too have a passion for chocolate eclairs and can well assue that they are good at making you feel better.
We will have a green christmas over here, ther weather forcasters have told us. No change over every christmas I can remember then. (grin)
I suspect that Ed will soon get the message, especially after he has spent some time getting cold for no benefit. (grin)
I wish you and all your family a verry happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year.

Joy, EM is doing well, other than two bruises. She must have used her left hand and arm to protect herself as she fell, and the two bruises are doozies! She seems to be enjoying Christmas, and not dwelling on her "war wounds," so they must not be too bad.
I'm sad to report that the brazen little guy is no more. I envisioned him in the communal drainpipe, above the dishwasher port, spread eagled in the pipe, trying to keep from falling and being swept away. Just think if someone had turned on the water in the sink above him! It will be interesting to see if they can figure out how he came and went.
Merry Christmas and safe travels to you, sweetie. I hope Stoney takes the week off!

Adele, we're really not sure if the mouse made it in from the port at the back, or whether he found some other way in. I doubt seriously that he could have lived through the heat and detergent of a dishwasher cycle, so my guess is that he had a way to come and go, or he happened in there and couldn't get out again.
Ed used to sit on the kitchen floor intently watching the lower panel of the dishwasher. I think he knew there was a mouse working his way through the cabinets, who visited the kitchen via the spacer under the dishwasher at night. Ed turned to stone while he waited for the mouse to be lulled by the quiet. We won't tell Nimrod about it! lol
We are doing some triage around EM's favorite chair. The throw rug will be history, and we may suggest to her that the new Crocs she received for her birthday have to be put aside. The toe box is so large that she has to take an exaggerated step, and I think she tripped on the toe of the shoe. We'll have to find another way to store her books and magazines and things that she uses daily. I hope that will keep her safe for a bit longer.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and the best in this coming year!
