WEEDS!

I meant to get out to work on the gardens at the entrance to the house this morning. We have had a phenomenal growing season, despite the fact that storms have been few and far between, and it's quite a jumble of incredible plants and more incredible weeds.

Unfortunately, we are still in the grasp of a major heat wave. I think I heard that we were at least 20 degrees above normal yesterday, and the heat has been here for several days. We're supposed to get rain early in the coming week, followed by more realistic temperatures....in the upper sixties. So, I'm sure that I will be doing a LOT of gardening in the next three weeks. By the end of the month it's time to put the gardens to bed for the winter.

I suspect the family of chipmunks that has made it's home in my mulch pile is going to be TICKED!! I'll be using part of that pile on the front garden, around the new redbud, and more of it on the fern bed and herb garden. There goes their new condo! I bet I'll find black walnuts buried in the mulch.

Well, I've stalled as much as I can. I have to go to the grocery store. Normally, it wouldn't be an issue, but this is Sunday. The entire world will be there by now. Have a good day, all! I'm off and running!

It was 29ยบ this morning and it's 43 on north side of barn right now, even in the sun chilly because a nice northerly breeze blowing. Makin power!

~~~ Sending a cool breeze your way ~~
Buffy, I'm not a gardener with any great gardening wisdom. But I tend to think that weeds do not propagate this late in the season. That all the lustful copulation has already occurred. And only seed fertilized and already dropped will birth in the spring. I tend to sneer at those still standing -- convinced that their days are numbered.
I mean, isn't there some sewing to be done? :)
Janet, I'll gladly take that cool breeze! I need to do some jacket shopping. I've outgrown the jackets I've worn for the past few years, so I better get my act together and get ready for weather like yours! I hope you're enjoying it, brisk as it is!
Roberta, we probably have tons of seed just waiting to spring forth next year. What I want to do is remove those that are so distracting THIS year. I can clear at least two areas and set mums in the ground in place of the weeds, and I'd be a happier camper. You and I can stand back and sneer at any that are left at that point. *S* Nice to have you visit. I'll be over to see what you've been up to lately.
The vegetable garden is definitely being overrun by weeds. I have to get out there soon to gather up all the implements, structures and weed barriers (sounds contradictory doesn't it?) pretty soon so WS can rototill it under.
Cop Car:
Chipmunks or squirrels, they all love to plant black walnuts, don't they? If there were a market for black walnut seedlings, we could make our fortunes!
Cop Car, we have an abundance of black walnuts, and an abundance of critters to plant them! I find them in my gardens, in the mulch and compost piles, and along the eastern edge of our property. I'm surprised we don't have a forest of mature black walnut trees! Too bad everyone else isn't clamoring for them.
bogie....somewhere along the south side of the house I lost my favorite trowel. I waited too long to weed one summer and by the time I started hauling out the weeds, I had a HUGE pile. Either I scooped the trowel up with the weeds and carted them off to the back of the lot, or the trowel fell through the branches of the evergreens and is laying there, waiting for me to find it. The trowel was painted green, and had a wooden handle. I'm buying PINK or ORANGE tools in the future! *G*
