Entertaining

We're almost ready for the Red Hat Ladies luncheon tomorrow. We've gotten an astonishing amount done in the gardens this week, especially when you know that I spent two quiet days with back trouble. Dear Husband mowed a good part of the lawn today. It looked like he was making hay, because he wasn't collecting the clippings and it had been more than a week since he mowed last. I used the string trimmer at the front and herb gardens, and I filled the wheelbarrow (twice!) with weeds and iris stalks.

As I walked down to the garden along the west of the driveway, I was looking at a tree where the drive bends a bit. I realized that the tree has the largest poison ivy leaves I've ever seen! There's a root growing up the tree that must be parasitic. We'll have to cut it at the base of the tree, and then cover ourselves in a week or two when we pull the dead plant from the tree. We could leave it, but the oil would still be there to do it's damage.

Dear Husband is going off to sail for two days. We're going to have breakfast together before he gets on the tollway, and I run my last couple of errands. I have to pick up fancy bread, flowers, red and purple balloons to mark our driveway, and my dry cleaning. I should be home by 7:30 or so.

We'll be celebrating the 83rd birthday of one of our members. Her friend brought a beautiful birthday cake to us today, so that the celebration would be a secret. I'm sure it's going to be a lovely day!

I have to iron a table cloth, and Elegante Mother will set the tables. I'll need to tidy the bedroom, make coffee and iced tea, bake the ziti, and arrange the flowers. Not bad, huh? It should be an easy morning.

Cop Car:

It's exhausting just reading about all of that work. You are so disciplined! Cleo, the friend who used to go to the retiree breakfasts and quilting guild meetings with me celebrated 95, today. Her family gave her a surprise party last night--a grandson from up state and a granddaughter from Las Vegas made it in for the party. Cleo was sailing high. Hope your friend has as good a time at your party (and, with all that's transpiring, I'm sure that she will.)

bod:

it all sounds wonderful...whats ziti?

Quit, Cop Car! You are one of the hardest working, most disciplined people I know. Happy Birthday to Cleo! Ninety five! Isn't that just amazing? Please send our wishes for many more active years. I'm sure our Red Hat friend will enjoy the day. I think we've managed to keep it a surprise so far. *S*

Bod, ziti is a tubular pasta that is about two inches long and the opening is about a quarter inch across. I chose the variety that has raised lines on the outside (holds more sauce). Ziti is longer and wider than elbow macaroni and straight. It's sorta like mostaccioli but the ends are cut straight, not at an angle.

Adele:

Your luncheon will be over by nw. I hope that it went well and that subsequently you have had the opportunity to relax. You must be exhausted at all your preparations for it.

Yes, the luncheon is over, and it went very well. I wasn't exhausted, but I seem to have done something to my right knee. It was one of those....now that we are past crunch time, everything can fall apart, things. I have a heat pack to use on it tonight, and things should get better.

Adele:

Ouch! Knees are things that you don't think about until something goes wrong - and then you realise how much you use them. Just keep that knee up for a couple of days to let it get better.

No, you don't do you? I find myself going down the steps to the garage very carefully, bending the left leg only when I remember, and saying "OUCH!!!" when I don't.
