The Simple Things in Life

I tried something new to me, but old to almost everyone else, today.

I am a tea drinker. I drink hot tea and iced tea. If I'm drinking iced tea, I prefer Lipton's Black, mixed with Tazo "Awake" black tea. If I'm drinking hot tea, it's Lipton's Black, or a variety of other teas, such as Earl Gray, English Breakfast Tea, Darjeeling, or occasionally black tea flavored with a hint of orange. I don't usually care for fruit teas, except for one apricot tea that's lovely on a cold evening. I don't care for herbal tea, either. I just want plain black tea that is brewed strong.

I probably have twenty kinds of tea in the cabinet. My family must think I'm difficult to buy for, because I frequently get gifts of tea. I don't mind. It's the perfect gift. One of my nieces has also created a collection for me of one and two-cup tea pots and cups. The most recent one has a Japanese look. It's cast iron and sits on a small round cup meant for a warming candle or Sterno can.

So...back to today. I have heard it suggested that rather than water your drink down with ice cubes, you can freeze what you plan to drink in ice cube trays. When you add the ice cubes to your drink, it doesn't get diluted!

I tried it today. What a simple idea! I can't believe that I haven't done it long before this. I have iced tea, with iced tea cubes, and my tea is still as strong as when I brewed it.

Go try it. Iced coffee, Iced lemonade....hmmmmmmm I don't think alcohol will freeze....

Blah! Strong tea puts hair on one's chest. You are right, though. I cannot imagine that you didn't try that little trick long before this. Brava!

(looking down....) Er....well....not MUCH!

When you come to visit, you'll have to tell me your drink of preference. Just because I drink tea, it's not necessary for you to feel you have to also.

I have always associated hot tea with an illness. I remember my youngest, Emmie Pop coming down with a bad cold. I scrounged through my cabinet and found a box of Celestial Tea "Sleepytime". Aha! Just the thing. Emmie Pop dutifully drank down a cup and I guess along with the URI ( upper respiratory infection), she also had a stomach bug and the tea quickly vacated back the way it came from.

Ever since then, if I ask her if she wants something to drink, she always wisecracks, "Well, Okay, but NOT THAT CRAPPY TIME TEA!".

She won't drink hot tea anymore.

What a great story Pattie! My sis has a story like that to tell. She and her girls were in the car, when the girls were young....perhaps 10 or younger. Nan had a headache, and asked her oldest daughter to look through her purse for the headache medicine. Her daughter held up the container and said...."You mean THIS...the I-be-barfen?" (Ibuprophen...sorry....I wasn't sure I told it well enough for you to get the punch line! *G*)

Art Linkletter was right when he said that "Kids say the darnedest things!" Personally, I agree with your daughter. I won't drink that stuff either!

In our household, when I was growing up, if you were ill you got warm 7Up and Cream of Tomato soup.

Buffy--Tea of the sorts you listed are all good by me. I just drink them very week, and not all of the time (although iced tea with any/every meal is perfectly acceptable as long as, as you mentioned, it isn't one of those sick berry teas!) I travel with my drink-of-preference, so please don't bother about anything other than tea that you have on hand. That way, my hostess doesn't get stuck with "left-overs" that no one else will drink! Thanks for asking. On the I-bu...anything that starts with Ib must be Ibuprofen! Cute kid.

Patty--I did enjoy your story, I did--but I happen to be sitting here eating a bowl of fresh veggies. My timing wasn't all that good!

I keep a few kinds of tea around too, always good to have selection!

The ice cubes idea is a good one, if you know ahead of time what you will be drinking. On hot hot days in particular it would be great as the need for ice would be all the greater.

CC...and just what IS your drink of preference that you carry with you??

I've just started using the iced tea cubes, Desiree. Since I am happy with Liptons or Tazo 80% of the time, the cubes are pretty interchangeable. I use LOTS of ice...LOTS! So this is really a great idea for me.

I hope your foot is healing, and that you're comfortable. Do you have a lot of books and magazines at hand?

Cop Car:

Desiree--So sorry to read that you are hobbled. I'm with Buffy on hoping that your foot is healing.

Buffy--As the ice in iced tea melts, the tea tastes better and better! My drinks of preference are Diet Dr Pepper and Fruit-2-O.

Okay....we have plenty of Diet Dr. Pepper. Bring the Fruit 2-O. *G*

*roger that*
