This picture shows all the promise of an early garden. The first weeding has been completed and bedding plants are in. (I think I was pushing it a little, but marigolds are hardy and can deal with a little cold.) After a long winter, it's hard to keep from rushing the planting season. In the Chicago area, traditionally tomatoes are not planted until May 15, but perennial herbs are much more hardy. These plants have teased me with greening leaves for easily six weeks by the time of the picture.
This picture was most likely taken in early May. You can see the chive blossoms, and you see them again in the next picture that was taken in mid-May. This is the time of year when I enjoy the weather the most, and I spend the most time in my gardens.
