Beneficence

Beneficence: The practice of doing good; active goodness, kindness, or charity; bounty springing from purity and goodness.

Just a quick note about beneficence...

I am personally practicing beneficence this week. I don't know that I'd say this bounty springs from purity or goodness, but it was a logical extension of my interests. A reader of this blog asked me if I'd care to create a "Quilt Room In A Bag" for a quilter who had lost everything due to Katrina or Rita. You all know that quilting is dear to my heart, so how could I refuse? I'll blog more about it tomorrow, in case any of you would like to participate in this activity. I've asked my quilting bee if they would care to contribute items, and I hope that we are able to put together several bags. I personally think it's a cool idea!

Very good, Buffy. I'm sure the persons that shall be the recipients will be very pleased. It is a great idea, there are so very many ways to help those that lost so much, I'm glad you found a way that pleases you. :)

It's a great idea! I have seen so many children getting toys, I always wondered if anyone was giving things to the adults victims to do, especially the ones still in shelters.

Buffy:

Thanks for the support, ladies!

Cop Car:

You are probably way ahead of me on this (you usually are!); but, I think it would be neat if each contributor to a bag included a block for the recipient. A friendship block might even be used (first name or screen name, only?) Just a thought.

A note on readability: The full-screen comment window is easier to read than the main window. Huh! How about that? The little pop-up comment window is not at all easy to read (and the text runs into the margins--at least on my monitor.) The star is gorgeous!

buffy:

Nope....this is one time you beat me to it. I didn't think to ask the ladies to do blocks for the bags. I'll have to run it by them and see what they think. I have two complete bags, and odds and ends for a third. At least two of the bee members have things to bring in early November, so I'll know just where we stand, then.

About the new design.... I love the star, too! It seems right to me to have a quilt on the blog. Since I don't have the same sight problems that you and Bogie have, it's difficult for me to guess what will work. Luckily, we have ~T~ the Magnificent, who is willing to try different things. Perhaps it will be easier for you to read when she is able to address the issue of "skins." Until then, we'll just have to tinker with it. :-)

Kathleen Goode:

So glad you are working on this project! I am getting more requests via Been There The Clearing House. The blocks idea is wonderful. I have been collecting fabrics to make one of the mended heart quilts for a member of the Coast Guard - he was out saving other people while he and his family lost thier home and nearly everything in it. The colors are marine blue and orange if anyone wants to join in. Won't get to this until Nov. - working on kits at the moment.

The star design is beautiful and the colors are perfect. I love fall with all the leaves changing colors and pumkins sprouting on all the porches. New energy in the air!

Oops! One of the comments that I thought was missing is above. Sorry that I didn't look before opening my big keyboard!
