The Dreaded Filing

I had a very successful day today. I spent it cleaning up a small corner of my life.

I am an office. Dear Husband chooses to handle payroll. The CPA does taxes, and everything left over is my problem. I am blessed that my office is in my home, and that the owners of the company (one of whom is my husband) are willing to let me work unusual hours.

The bane of my existence is filing. I finish a bit of work and move it to the stack on the left. The stack grows. Eventually, I HAVE to file or the desk might fall through the floor to the basement.

Today I gathered up the filing and took it to the dining room table. I sorted through, creating eight stacks, and then I organized each stack. I managed to file half of the papers by 4:30. I was delayed for a few moments when I decided to throw out paperwork on trucks we no longer own going back to 1989.

A little reorganization here....a few files pitched out there...and things were definitely looking better. I can feel the urge to do some Spring cleaning! Simplify!

While I was working on files yesterday, Elegante Mother walked in with a bag of what she thought was scraps. I recognized the "scraps." When my mother wishes to make a quilt, she asks me to cut the pieces for her. She had made a wonderful lap quilt several years ago and I had cut more pieces for her than she needed. When I organized the pieces, I found there was enough fabric for 48 blocks. Six of them are done. I couldn't resist.

And...that one pound bag of lavender flowers? The one that's been sitting in my office for several weeks? Some of it has been dispersed around the house, replacing last year's crop, and the rest is residing in my closet for the time being. What do you think of lavender sachets for Christmas stocking gifts??

Adele:

My first few jobs at work involved a huge amount of filing. As a result like you I hate that activity. Even now with domestic papers I do it only as often as I absolutely have to.

Anyway, the universe has clearly rewarded you for getting on with the filing by providing you with that fabric for a quilt. Have fun.

I hadn't thought of it quite that way, but I do believe you are right. I was in a better frame of mind because I got to do a little quilting.

I got up early this morning and cranked out more blocks. 31 of them are done, and I might be able to finish the rest in the next hour. Mail will have to wait. FABRIC calls~~~~~~~~~~~

I am terrible about filing house stuff, but at work I am a filing fanatic (probably because I have to keep track of so much stuff it's the only way I can).

I can relate to fears of the desk falling thru - I keep thinking that I will have to file soon. Wintertime is soon isn't it?

Lavender sachets - wonderful gifts when, especially when they are homemade!

Lavender sachets are a great idea!
It is one my favorite frangrances.
As for your organization problem, I make file folders for everything and plop the stuff in ASAP! I've learned to do that the hard way.

Buffy:

Lavender sachets it is, then!

Yeah....I know. Do it now. Just DO IT! Well...I've got a good start on it now. I'll just have to keep at it.
