Drizzle

The rain has come! Wednesday night there was a hard shower for about 30 minutes, and then the cloud cover rolled in, and we have had lovely, gentle showers off and on for the past two days. I understand we may continue this way for a couple more days with a chance of storms during the day today and tomorrow, and thunderstorms this evening. (Wouldn't you know that Dear Husband is planning on staying overnight on the Arr!!?)

The ground is absorbing every little drop! The plants are saying "AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" Everything looks green and clean again.

I was sitting at my desk in the office, facing the window, and an unusual movement in the leaves of the magnolia caught my attention. Individual leaves were fluttering here and there. A plink to the left, and a twitter higher up on the right. Another in the center, followed by another on the lower left. I thought at first there might be little birds on the branches behind the leaves, until I realized I was seeing the start of the rain. Bring it on! I'm ready for more. As a matter of fact, we could have gentle rain like this all week long and I'd love it.

I made a stop at Costco on Friday. When I went into the store the rain had stopped, so of course I left the umbrella in the car. As I neared the exit, there were a number of women standing with their carts, looking out at the renewed storm. I paused for a minute, and decided I wasn't going to melt and sallied forth saying to the women I passed "We might as well enjoy it while it's here." You know....there was a parade of women out in that rain, enjoying getting soaked!

Cop Car:

Think of how much you helped those women, Buffy. Sometimes, it's such a small thing that makes a difference. Good show!

Buffy:

(GRINS) I try to do my part, Cop Car!

Remember when we were little, we loved playing in the rain and in puddles?
I can't remember exactly what age that stopped.

Susan--I specifically remember going out for a frolic in the rain when in college. Hunky Husband still goes out to play in the rain--although, he calls it his run for the day. As long as it is a light rain, he goes out for his 4-6 mile run. When I was doing my walking outside (I now use a treadmill because I have an exercise partner that can't walk outside), a little rain, sleet, or snow didn't keep me from walking (I went 3 miles in a blizzard at Edwards Air Force Base in about 1986); but, I probably haven't walked in the rain since about age 63.

Buffy--If you just keep posting comments for me, I won't need to exercise my fingers--lol. Isn't software a joy?!

dave:

The rain sounded so good...I can just envision sitting there looking out as the rain is falling. Everything seems so peaceful during a gentle rain. I may have to take a nap now!

Buffy:

Susan, I think I stopped playing in the rain about the time I graduated from college, or at the very least by my mid-twenties. I've been accused of taking life to seriously. Perhaps I need to get out in the rain more.

Dave....(yawning....) I could use a nap myself.

No problem, Cop Car. I never mind giving you an assist. *S*

As I always say to people who are concerned about getting wet in rain - you've got waterproof skin, haven't you?

buffy:

So right, BW! The rain actually felt good.

I hear B.J. Thomas singing in the background, and ladies dancing with metal buggies spinning round and round...Esther Williams' of the parking lot.

You go girls!

Cop Car:

Well....we weren't quite THAT organized! lol You have a scary imagination, Pattie!

Adele:

We've had a bit of rain on and off over the last few weeks. The weather forecasters say that we shall have some more tomorrow - I'm not sure I believe them.

The trouble is that the plants look really relieved for a day or two and then, when there are more hot dry days, everything starts to look stressed again.

Oh well, provided we have enough to keep all the plants going...

Cop Car:

We had a total of about 3" of rain over a 3- or 4-day period, here in Kansas. The first day I went out to play in the mud, I got about 3" of it on my gardening clogs! The lawn and plants appreciated the moisture, and we appreciated the coolness (if not the relative humidity) that went with the rain. For a couple of days, we didn't even break 80 degrees F. Today, we are at nearly 100, but we at least got a break.

In addition to the brown grass that the hot and dry weather had brought about, the strip of grass nearest the house in the back yard had gone dormant. Upon checking, we discovered that the irrigation system was not working properly. The Landscaping people came out to replace a valve a few days ago. Now, when we get back to scheduled watering, that strip should join in receiving water.

buffy:

I don't know what our totals are so far, but we had about four hours of rain today, and are supposed to be getting more tonight. We finally had to mow this week, after two months of dormant grass. I have vowed not to complain about the rain. We need it too much to grouse about the minor inconveniences. Elegant Mother had her hair done today, and it was raining by the time we got to the grocery store. She got door to door curb service and I got my second shower of the day. It's a good thing I wear cotton! lol

We have had much (frequent) rain here over the last month (or so). What a positive attitude you showed the group of women, way to go - might as well enjoy it (seems much of the time we gripe about too much precipitation, not enough - - seldom are we (as a whole) very happy with it.

Buffy:

Des, if Dear Husband could change one thing about me, I bet it would be the tendency to worry about things I can't change. I felt it was only fair not to complain about getting caught in the rain since I'd been grousing about the drought. There are times when we just need to be in tune with Mother Nature, and what better way than to parade in the rain??
