What I was doing fifty years ago: Enjoying the summer between kindergarten and first grade. Moving from the suburbs of Chicago to the farmland of Illinois.
What I was doing twenty-five years ago: Finishing my master’s degree in music education, and preparing to start my last year as a teacher.
What I was doing twenty years ago: Celebrating the Bear’s win at the Super Bowl, retraining in bookkeeping, forming a quilt guild and a bee.
What I was doing fifteen years ago: Settling into our new home, taking responsibility for my mother’s care, teaching quilting classes and creating my current position as the office for Dear Husband’s company.
What I was doing ten years ago: The same.
5 years ago: More of the same.
1 year ago: More of the same. What can I say? I’m stuck in a rut. My life has been static for the last 16 years. Other than making new quilts, my life is a round of cleaning, exercise, office work and gardening.
Yesterday: I started out with two hours of gardening, watered the herb garden and the container garden, filled the bird feeders, started several loads of wash, and then I sat with Dear Husband and his oldest son during the heat of the day. My step-daughter brought her baby and we visited with her through the afternoon. Dinner was pizza, followed by two more hours of gardening.
5 snacks I enjoy: Chips, popcorn, nuts, fruit, chocolate
5 songs I know all the words to: The Star Spangled Banner, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Ave Maria, Yesterday, The First Noel
5 Things I would do with $100 million: I like a lot of Cop Car’s answer "Set up trusts that would allow all of our family to live in relative comfort (This would only take about $15M.) then set up trusts to benefit my favorite charities and schools (Planned Parenthood, YWCA Women's Shelter, American Red Cross," ... University of Illinois, and the American Cancer Fund, and diabetes research.
5 locations I would like to run away to: Scotland, the Pacific Northwest, the Eastern seacoast of the USA….particularly the far Northeast, and the Chesapeake Bay area, New Orleans in the winter and spring.
5 bad habits I have:
"Swearing, ignoring built-up dust, procrastinating, snacking, loafing"
Stolen from Cop Car, because they also apply to me.
5 things I like doing: Creating quilts, reading, cooking, sharing my home with friends, gardening.
5 things I would never wear: Imitation leopard skin pants, a bee hive hairdo, body piercings other than for earings, A GIRDLE, low rise jeans paired with a baby T.
5 TV shows I like: Monk, Law and Order (any of them), Farscape (now defunct)
5 Biggest joys of the moment:
Dear Husband, our extended families, especially our granddaughter, two quilts which are nearing completion, On-line friends who encourage me to grow, and the wildlife we get to watch from our windows.
5 Favorite toys:
My computers, the kitchen equipment we’ve amassed, my quilting tools and software, my pruning shears.

Joe! (hands on hips) That might have been the only time da Bears will win in my lifetime. How could you forget???
Yeah.....you're right. If I wasn't pretty happy, I wouldn't have kept doing the same thing all this time. :-)

Buffy - I didn't realise that you taught quilting on a regular basis as well as making quilts for yourself. I'm really impressed
Err... if you do have the opportunity to run away to Scotland let me know. We could meet up if you came to this side of the pond. Oh and those bad habits you describe - that's just like me (except for swearing much).

Don't worry about the swearing. Since Dear Husband doesn't swear (at least at home), and his children don't swear, I've really tried to cut back. I haven't succeeded in completely giving it up, but most of my language is pretty decent now.
Yeah....I taught some quilting when we had the needlecraft shop, and I taught beginners classes for my quilt guild. I'm what would be called an intermediate quilter. I haven't kept up with the new trends and techniques to be considered advanced, and I have too many other obligations to give it the time I'd need to make it to the next step. There are lots of things left for me to learn, and I look forward to trying my hand at some of them.

Now just a dad-gummed minute! If there is a meeting in Scotland, you must include moi. It's mandatory!
Quilt designer Linda Everhart, a Topeka, Kansan who recently returned from Ireland, Wales & England, spoke at our Prairie Quilt Guild meeting, yesterday. She developed the FUSIQUE method, a trademarked technique for making "stained glass" quilts. I decided that I wasn't ready to take her workshop (and I definitely wasn't ready for the sermon that was the basis of her talk!) I understand that people can be enthusiastic about their religions--they should be--but, I didn't sign up for a sermon. The guild gurus will hear about this.

Good for you, Cop Car! Feedback is the only way our teachers become more professional. It's too bad that someone hasn't set her straight before this. Quilt guilds weren't created to be captive audiences for anything other than quilting.
I wondered when we'd hear from you about the trip to Scotland! I KNEW you wouldn't want to be left out. *S*

A retreat in Scotland sounds good to me too. The three of us - I wonder if the husbands would want to come? I suspect not, they would probably wince at the thought of all the chatter!
Mind you, if you came to Scotland perhaps you two could do some more brainwashing. I can just imagine it, hypnotising me and saying "Take up quilting...take up quilting.. take up quilting..."

Have set up a barrier around my mind to block out the attempts to hypnotise me as I've just booked a class to learn Soft Furnishings (making curtains, blinds, etc.
I know Buffy, you and Cop Car will point out to me that I could also start quilting as well. {Eyes beginning to revolve in a hypnotic trance}

Buffy--Tell Dear Husband that it might be fun to have two gorgeous, 21-year-old, stacked blondes to escort. Did he think of that? Also, you might point out to him that the three of us did well by ourselves for one afternoon, at least. Encourage him to come, if we go. Don't let HH's not going torpedo his plans.
HH did the international travel bit while working for the Big Bomber Store. Since he and I don't travel all that well, together, there just isn't any allure for him. *sigh* Ummm...Buffy...I think that Scotland is somewhere north of Africa, isn't it?
Adele--Quilts are soft. Surely they will be included in the course! Speaking of "course", I'll bet if you could get a tee time for HH on THE Course in Scotland (St. Andrews, isn't it?), HH would be tempted. (Well, not really.) What is the best time of year for Scotland--remembering that Buffy and I suffer from the heat?

Are you two serious about Scotland? I mentioned it to my DH and he did not run away shreiking by the idea of us all meeting up there. Let me know offline if you are both interested....
