Susan, these are two of Elegant Mother's orchids. She has a white one in addition to these two. She tells me they are Phalaenopsis orchids. I thought you might like a peek at what she's growing.

Aren't they lovely, Susan?? I think the deep rose is my favorite.
We bought the land our house sits on from a couple that had about 15 acres. They had a greenhouse, and it turned out that the woman was related to a reknown family of orchid growers. The greenhouse was used to help prepare the orchid crop for sale.
We were married, at home, in September. The day of the wedding this lady's husband walked over with an immense florist box for us. When I opened it, I discovered that they had pruned all the orchids and given the booms to us. She said that it was nothing, that they would have just thrown all those blooms away!
I filled every vase I had with groups of orchids. We had them in every room of the house, including the bathrooms! It was an incredible gift that I will always remember.
Susan, believe it or not, you can get orchids like this at Home Depot, or the Jewel (grocery chain). I think they must be readily available. They're very low maintenence. I'll have to ask Elegant Mother about their care, but I think they are very user friendly plants.

I got mine at Trader Joe's. I think my problem is lighting. Hope Elegant Mother can help.
What a beautiful wedding you must have had! You must post a picture!
So you have the greenhouse?

No. About five years ago, they sold the rest of their land to a developer who was collecting plots and connecting them. Now we have six houses along our lot line, and the greenhouse is forever gone. The neighbors took what they got for 12 acres and a house here, and bought 125 acres and a house in Idaho. They were looking for isolation, and I think they got it.
