I could have said a collage, or a collection, but those words imply some relationship. My thoughts tonight are related only by the fact that they have all crossed my mind today.
RedEagle has arranged for me to have Site Meter for this blog, but I almost never visit. In my blog reading tonight, I came across the word "referrals" and it occurred to me to see how many people have come to visit in the past year and a half. Once I discovered that almost fourteen thousand have been here, I checked to see how they had found me. Some surf in from the Globe of Blogs, and others link through blog friends. I had to laugh when I discovered that someone had surfed MSN and linked to me through the word "moose." See the entry called "Drat!" for an explanation. I laughed even harder when I discovered that I was the second listing for "making carmel topping," based on my entry about cleaning out the refrigerator and finding 1999 carmel topping for ice cream tucked way back in a corner. It's a small world. *S*
It seems that a number of us have lost our "Muse." (See "...getting on without the Muse.") I wonder if it's contagious? I've seen a number of excellent posts lately, but nothing that has given me more than a line or two of thought to share with you. I think I may have read the funniest entry ever over at "I Could Have Been A Contender," (The wisdom teeth story), and I've read about English bus riding (I caught a train), and choosing burials v.s. cremation (An Issue of Mortality). But so far the spark I need is missing. Maybe we need a topic a day, a la "One Word," to start us blogging. Or perhaps I need the diligence of committing to an entry a day no matter what the state of my mental larder.
Weather has been odd, here, and over the globe. We reached 62 degrees two days ago, and today it struggled to get to the teens. It was 2.5 degrees F. at seven this morning. A friend in Scotland sent me pictures of the damage done at a record high tide this week, and there are mudslides reshaping the hills in California, and waves are taking out beach towns. Have I commented that a Texas town had 11 inches of snow in early December, while the Chicago area had only had 5 and a little, and the Minneapolis area had less than half of that? The world is Topsy turvy. A friend believes that we may see the north and south pole reverse during our lifetime.
Did you hear me cussing out Ed, the cat? We had an appointment for his annual physical. His vet adores him, and he behaves well, for her! I had a busy day, and the appointment was for 5:15 in the afternoon. I finished preparing a meal for my mother, and turned in time to see the cat slip off the ottoman and RUN for my mother's living room. I SWEAR he was laughing maniacally as he went. As I tried to sweep him out from under my mother's couch, he must have slipped away at the opposite end, and found a new hiding spot. In disgust, I sat down, and pulled a quilt over my lap, thinking I could lure him out. At one minute before the appointment, which was a 20 minute drive away, he came to be petted. I've rescheduled for Monday, and I won't be waiting for the last moment to gather the cat this time.
I've sent most of my Christmas thank you notes, I'm almost ready to mail a quilt off to be machine quilted, my youngest sis is coming Sunday night to help Mother with a window treatment, and Monday the painter is coming to do touch ups in two rooms. Exciting stuff, hmmm??
The highlight for the week has to be Cop Car getting set up on Type Pad. If you haven't visited, please do. I think you'll enjoy her brand of blogging. Welcome to the group, Cop Car!
And with that, I'm going to take a hike, and see if I can find that missing Muse!

I always catch my cats first thing in the morning and put them in a carrier. Otherwise they are likely to slide ou the door when letting the dogs in/out. (I always make the appointment as early as possible so they don't have to spend too much time in the carrier).
As far as blogging every day - sometimes I have topics, sometimes I don't. If not, I don't blog unless the dry stretch runs more than 2-3 days. Then I have a lame entry that basically lets everyone know I'm still alive.

Smart, Bogie! I prefer the 8:00 appointment, but my vet is currently working evenings only. She was surprised to become a mother at 41, and I think she's waiting until her daughter is in school to go back to work full time. I think so much of her as our vet that I don't want to change to one of her partners, so we get these odd evening appointments, where Ed has the chance to slip away if I don't outthink him. Next time, we'll get ready earlier! lol
I understand what you're saying about not posting if you don't have something you want to say. I think I'm slowly getting to that point.

(laughing) So, Joe...you like it when I ramble, hmmm?? There's always something going on in your life. I can count on you to make a daily post.
We had a wonderful dog named Defer, and he could tell if someone in the family was going to leave, and he seemed to understand the difference between a short errand, and a longer absence. He hated to travel so he never got to go with us, but he made a wonderful welcome home committee of one!

Thank you, Dear Buffy (Deer Buffy--for your critters?) for the plug. Since I declined being indexed and listed, the only people who are expected to find my site will come from your link (as did one this morning) or from links on other blogger friend or family sites.
As strange as it may seem, I can readily hear "The Voice" that each of my blogger friends projects; but, darned if I catch one in my own writings.

I failed to mention my secret weapon in getting our cats to come when they absolutely MUST (as in when we are leaving town and they are being boarded out!) An open can of salmon (or, in a pinch, tuna) and urgent calls do the trick. (They don't get "urgent calls" except when there is salmon to be had, so they are Pavlovian in their response.)

Cop Car.....I had just shared people food tuna with the rat....so it irked me even more that he slipped away! I'll have to get my timing down.
It's my pleasure to send people your way. I'm sure they will enjoy your blog!

About "The Voice"...I'm pretty sure it will come. I see the start of it all ready.....dry wit, precise use of words, family ties....it's coming. Give us some time to see what you choose to post about and it will be clearer.

Cop Car - that would work well if any of my cats would ever eat anything but cat food (eggs, cheese, fish, fresh meat - no way). Heck, I only have one cat that will eat canned cat food. The others have to have their kibble.
Actually, they are all pretty good about coming when called - unless it is summer, then it is hit-or-miss with Tory.

Bogie--My cats have never had canned cat food (at least, not in the 13-14 years that I've had them), so I don't know whether they would eat it. My theory is why pay for cat food in cans when I can stock salmon and share it with the cats (they really only want the juices, anyway!)
Buffy--The only things that I'm apt to write about are the happenings with family or friends, except for the occasional blurb on someone else's blog. I so admire the way people like Ronni attack a subject and give us actual information; but, I'm unwilling to put in the time to do it--let alone being unable to come close to her research skills and her ability to distill it all down to a readable post.
Afterthought: I doubt that anyone wants to read about structural aspects of airplanes--LOL.

Ya know....it's smart not to get cats used to canned cat food. Mine eats half a can and refuses the rest because it's a leftover!
CopCar....DH would probably read avidly about the structural aspects of airplanes! lol You just never know what will interest your audience.
