Dear Husband earned his halo today. He took the day off. I think this is the first time in 18 years that he has not gone to work the day after Thanksgiving. Since it was raining, it was a wise choice. He was spending a lazy day until I came back from my errands.
"Sweetie, could you give me a hand bringing up the Christmas decorations?"
I bet he made a dozen trips. I'd go through a box or two, and hand him what needed to be taken up the stairs, and he'd make the trip. I need to spend a morning downstairs repacking the Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations for the year, so that when the Christmas stuff goes back down, it won't be so difficult to reorganize it.
Dear Husband has been muttering that he shouldn't sit and watch TV after dinner. My solution to that is to have him join me in the basement, organizing what needs to be saved, and collecting what needs to be thrown away. I think he's delayed that chore because he knows that he will get to carry the trash upstairs.
Wait until he discovers that I have five or six boxes of mismatched mugs downstairs. I've been saving them incase we should ever open a coffee house. Maybe it's time to learn to make coffee.
We need a conveyor belt! I think I'll go browse on e-Bay....

If you need more mugs for your coffe house, we've quite a collection. Hunky Husband and I have 3 shelf-fulls on display (downstairs in the pool room), with at least that many stuck away. So many of them are so beautiful (I'm particularly fond of a mug given to me when I worked for a few weeks in Binghamton NY, that shows silhouettes, in gold leaf, of a KC-135 refueling a B-52. It means a lot to me because they were hard to obtain and one of the Binghamton gals brought me an "extra" that she had at home!)

That's my problem, CC....most of these mugs were gifts, or have memories attached to them. There are a few I could get rid of, but I hate to part with the rest. I guess I better find a good way to store them, and rotate them now and then.

Surely your Dear Husband can build you some display cases for your mugs (don't tell him I said that--LOL.) The mugs must be glass enclosed or you'll spend your life dusting them! If/when you make it to our neck of the woods, perhaps you can go through our mugs to weed out the "undesirables". (Of course, those will be the ones with memories attached so none will get thrown away!!)

Ha Ha Ha Ha HAAAAAAAAA! That was a GOOD one, Cop Car! You've met Dear Husband....you KNOW I'll never see a case for my mug collection.
And you're right....no one else can weed out our collections. They would never know the stories that go with some of those mugs.
Maybe what I can do when we come to visit is to bring some of MY mugs. You can care for them in YOUR mug cabinet. Hey, HH....ready to start a little project??

Hmmm. Yes, I met your Dear Husband; but, that didn't make me think that he wouldn't care to build display cases. Guess I wasn't paying attention.
I hope that I gave you no reason to infer that Hunky Husband had anything to do with building the "display case" for our mugs. It will never, ever, ever happen. When we were planning the house, I decided that I did not want to waste the space on a full bar such as we had put in the last house that we had built. It was horseshoe shaped, with a raised bar that hid the cabinet area on the side of the U at which people sat. The other side of the U was against the wall, and was just a set of shallow cabinets to put glassware in--with a mirror hanging above (off of one of our dressers.)
This time, we just put cabinets along the wall, with a iche for a refrigerator at one end and for a freezer at the other (which actually houses a small, free-standing wine rack that WD & Dudette gave HH some years ago. We've about decided that we don't really need a freezer beings as how we have two refrigerators with across-the-top freezers.) In the thinking mode, I decided to have glass doors put on the cupboards hanging over the cabinet tops--displaying the mugs, nicely. Thus, the "display case" came with the house--LOL. HH is good enough with his hands that he could do almost anything, I think, but he has zero interest in using those hands. He prefers to use his brain and fingers (as in manipulating a keyboard and mouse!)

My hunky husband feels the same, Cop Car. He is not interested in building or maintaining anything other than a boat, now, and he's getting more interested in the computer with every passing day. You lucked out with the built in mug cabinets!
We've never been much for drinking other than wine, so there's not bar in this house, or I'd be looking at it now for mug storage! lol

I've no use for bars, personally; but, I had thought that HH would move/buy a new pool table and that he would then have friends over. None of this has happened (he sold the old table rather than move it), and may never; but, it gives us a place to store the soda and Gatorade (which he drinks by the quart after he runs). I'm glad we didn't put too much space into this one.
The old bar got used when we had parties--which we actually did on occasion in our previous life (when we were young!) HH was really active in the Jaycees, so we had a lot of Jaycee "traffic".

Dear Husband's brother was extremely active in the Jaycees, so I understand how a bar might have been an asset. My sibs and I drank when we were a lot younger, but as we've aged, we've all cut back. We mostly entertain family. If we invite all our blog friends, we might have to set up a bar! *G*
