Yeah....I bet you thought I was going to talk about the Fourth of July, didn't you??
Actually, I was sitting here, envying those of you who can imbibe....especially those of you who can imbibe and still type!
I've been chatting with a friend about drinking. I'm not a T-totaller. I drink now and then, mostly socially. I'd really like to serve wine with our dinner, but I keep forgetting to open a bottle.
I can recall that my Dad would come home every night from work and have two up-side-down Manhattans, and then we would have dinner. Just like clockwork. He limited his alcohol intake, but he never missed those two drinks in the evening. It gave my parents the time to talk about their days as Mother finished preparing dinner, and we could all gauge how much time was left till we ate by the liquid in his glass.
When I was in college, I had the obligatory experience with alcohol. I doubt I'll ever have Vodka and orange juice again. Funny......I can remember that better than most of what was said in my classes.....
I was reasonably sober through my twenties and early thirties until one memorable party the last year I was teaching. I'm really not sure how I got home that night. I woke and the bed was spinning, and I wanted to die. I'm sure I whispered something like "Dear God, please take me NOooooowwwwww!"
Since then, I have been conservative, to say the least.
I've discovered that some of you have a libation of your choice (VX, anyone???? *G*) beside the keyboard when you post to your blog. I envy you. When I am completely sober, I feel like someone is moving my keyboard around! A glass or two of wine, and I'd be telling all, if I could just find the keys!
Yeah.....that means that I'm a cheap date. Dinner and a couple of glasses of wine, and I'm through for the night. No dancing, or theater, or late night jazz clubs for me. I'd have to take a nap in the afternoon, and stay sober to make it to a late night jazz club.....and there's something wrong with that picture. I'd be the one running on high....while everyone around me was mellowed out.
So...I hope you all celebrate....tipple....sip....imbibe.... and enjoy. I'll do my best to join you! *G*

You can drink a couple of glasses of wine? These days, 1/2 of one glass is as much as I'd better try if I want to finish making dinner--LOL. I, too, did the obligatory liquor thing in college (but, I recall vodka and grape juice or, better yet, vodka and grapefruit juice) and quit for all practical purposes when HH and I married at (my) age 19. With a few notable exceptions. My last bout had HH and his brother-in-law carrying me out of a St Louis restaurant, and my mother-in-law exclaiming as they supported my lurching form up the front sidewalk to her house, "Thank goodness! I thought HH was sick!" (This became a standing family joke.) P.S. What the heck is VX?
