Dear Husband and I have been watching a program called "Inside the Actor's Studio." It's shown on the Bravo cable channel, and we tend to catch it on Sunday evening. Last week the host, James Lipton, interviewed Russel Crowe. I was surprised to find that I liked him better than I would have guessed. At the end of the evening they announced that they would be interviewing Hugh Jackman tonight.
I wanted to see that program so much I actually wrote a reminder and left it on the kitchen counter! I first saw Hugh Jackman in "Kate and Leopold." He was an interesting actor who did a great job with a contrived role. The second time I saw him was in the character of "Wolverine" in "X Men." What a change! The third time we cam across him, he wa playing the role of "Curly" in a British production of "Oklahoma!" The man is incredibly versitile, and he has a KILLER smile!
His interview tonight was charming. He said that he had been invited to audition for "Oklahoma," and he got up to sing, and forgot the words! He walked to the piano and sang for the men gathered, and by the time he got to the end, all of them were singing along with him! He brought great vitality to the role, some cheekiness, and a lot of good humor. His vocal interpretations were a joy.
The first time Jackman auditioned for a singing role, he was advised to go get some voice lessons and then come back and audition again. He was working with the coach, and having a difficult time. Jackman asked the coach, who worked in the theater, to sing him an example. Then, Jackman sang it back for him. The coach was startled and said something to the effect that Jackman already knew how to sing. He responded that he didn't, he had just imitated what he had heard the coach do. Oh, if only it was that easy to sing! Hugh Jackman has a HUGE talent that seems to be unlimited.
His newest movie is "Van Helsing." I think I may go, just to see what he does with that role. I don't know how he found the time to make that movie, because he's staring in a show on Broadway called "The Boy from Oz." THey played a clip of the show this evening, and it's a very high energy production, with at least 21 songs. I don't think I've ever wished I lived closer to New York, but I'd love to see his performance.
So, there you have it. I'm smitten by Wolverine!

OK, younguns. The only thing that I could identify was Curly in Oklahoma! I'll keep my eyes/ears open.

CopCar, I think you'd really like this performer. He has such vitality that you can't help but enjoy him. If you have the chance to see either "Kate and Leopold" or the British production of "Oklahoma," start with them.
