Hospital Corners

Do you make your bed every day?

My mother taught me to make my bed each day. I learned how to make "hospital corners" so that the upper sheet was tight and flat. While I can't drop a quarter and have it bounce, as my sister the Navy Officer was taught to do, I do make a reasonably good looking bed.

The problem is, the very first thing Dear Husband does when he greets this newly made bed is to rip the top sheet out from the mattress.

This was a bone of contention between us for some time. DH is a stomach sleeper. With the sheet secured so tightly over the end of the mattress, there was no place for him to slide his feet.

So, I'd go to all this effort to make my bed the correct way, and then have him destroy one side of it. I got miffed, and stopped making the bed. Then, of course, I realized that it didn't bother HIM at all that the bed was an unmade mess.

I resumed making the bed to satisfy my own needs. When I think we are likely to have visitors who might see our bedroom, I make the bed up correctly, tucking in HIS side just as tightly as I can. Otherwise, my side of the bed anchors the covers and is always neat.

The advantage of this is that generally I get all the covers when I want them. Dear Husband still found a way to even up the odds. He's a little vertically challenged. When he slithers down the bed so that he can hang his feet off then end, he takes the covers with. I find myself crammed into the bottom half of the bed, trying to keep warm some night.

I'm going to adapt a pair of suspenders to attach to the bedding so that the covers stay in place through out the night. *GRIN*

When I read this entry to him, he said.... "Staples."

Cop Car:

I know of no law saying that a bed must be made ever, let alone daily, and I don't understand the compulsion. During the years between our marriages, Hunky Husband developed a fetish about his bed's being made daily. Fortunately, his idea of a "made" bed is throwing the covers over the pillows. That, I can live with. Since we don't share a room (it used to be that I would get up in the middle of the night to go sleep in the guest room when the snoring and thrashing got intolerable, now I occupy the guest room unless it is otherwise in use!) In "my" room, I do as he does (just to please him since he is at home all day most days) and throw the covers up over the pillows. Unless, of course, company is coming.

NO...there's no law. I make my bed for a couple of reasons. First, my mother guilts me into it. Second, I tend to thrive on organization. Third....it gives me a place to show off my quilts and my hand work.

Actually....there are days I envy your attitude. Just don't let DH hear that.

I don't mind the bed being made...however, when you're tired and need to sleep....made or not, for me the end result is the same. Yep, I'm male!

Hey my mom and I are trying to re-upholster a chair and they say to make the corners like you would a hopital bed corner. What exactly is that? If you could please help us. Her e-mail adress is jillpearson55@cox.net
