X-Men

I am an "X-Men" convert! When I first heard about "X-men," I dismissed it as a kid's cartoon movie. Then, I discovered that Hugh Jackman plays "Wolverine" in the movies. I first saw Jackman in "Kate and Leopold," and then happened to see him in the role of Curly in an all English cast of "Oklahoma."

I was working on quilts, and had the DVD player running. My son, on his way out to a convention, dropped off his copies of the two "X-Men" movies, and I watched the first on Saturday morning. I was astounded at what I had missed! They are GREAT movies, and I didn't need the protective coloration of an eight-year-old to go to the theater to see them. If a third one comes out, I'll take the kids if they need a ride, but I'll be happy to go without them.

I replayed the first movie for DH on Saturday night. (It was a cheap date, what can I say??) Sunday morning I watched the second film. I can see we'll have to have another hot date, so that DH can see the sequel.

Patrick Stewart (Picard in "Star Trek: Next Generation") is one of the good guys, and Ian McKellan (Gandolph, in "The Lord of the Rings") is Magneto, one of the bad guys. Halle Berry is "Storm," one of the good guys. Jackman is superb as Wolverine, and Anna Paquin, who won an Oscar for her performance in "The Piano" as a child, is wonderful as "Rogue."

The storyline is plausible, and absorbing. Enough is held back in the first movie that you are eager to see the second, to learn more. I hope there will be at least one more movie to come.

...now - do you want me to go all comic-geeky on you...or will it just suffice to say - check out jean grey's eyes and check out the "shadow" in the lake...

...one day the phoenix will rise :^)...

..oh, and the x-men have never been "kids stuff"...as a metaphor for rascism in the 60/70 and aids in the 90's the x-men have always stood for more than just superheroes in spandex :^)...

Thanks for the education on the X-men, hon! I didn't consider it to be comic-geeky at all.

The conflict is likely to always be with us, whether it's the Irish, Serbs, Kurds or the US vs Islamic way of life. It seems the X-men will always be relevant.

Mmmmmm... I watched them. I cursed a blue streak through the first one only because I have been a die hard X-Men fan for a long time (stopped collecting after Magneto tore the adamantium out of Wolverine's skeleton and haven't picked up a copy since) ... and I know it's a movie... and I know they had to change stuff... but they rewrote the entire universe in those two movies *sighs*. I have to admit, I liked the way they presented Nightcrawler. He's always been one of my faves. Other than that... still have too many gripes, but I'll watch the third installment I'm sure.

...g'on mercy...admit it...that moment when colossus armoured up - you squeeled with joy didn't you :^)...I did :^)...

..oh and as you've been a long time out the loop - most of claremont's stuff has been re-written...I thought that singer did very well to transfer the ideas to film...and thank goodness they didn't bring gambit :^)...

...at the moment your email is bouncing :^(...

Adele:

I love both films too. I love sci-fi anyway and these films aren't aimed at idiots. Great entertainment. The only trouble is I can only watch them when DH isn't around as he totally dislikes the genre.

(Men in Black and MIB2 are fun too, more then a bit daft and ideal if you want something to cheer you up.)

billy.....blame AOL if my mail is bouncing. T will be doing a happy dance when we FINALLY switch to a cable line, and so will I!

Adele, sometimes the daft stuff is great! I love MIB!
