Mini-Series

Dear Husband has discovered a channel on TV that is presenting a variety of mini-series. It's called "Trio." Perhaps you're familiar with it.

He discovered that they were playing "Shogun," and we were hooked. We watched it when it first came out, and were already familiar with the book. It's rather like finding an old friend.

Trio has also aired a show on the ten best mini-series. I wish I could tell you what they are, but I missed most of the show. Some of the mini-series that they mentioned were "Rich Man Poor Man," "The Thornbirds," "Brideshead Revisited," "From the Earth to the Moon," "Winds of War," and a Danielle Steel story. I'm pretty sure they didn't mention "Taken."

We've been following "Taken" for the last ten weeks. Normally, I would tell you that anything by Steven Spielberg was likely to be excellent, but we've been very disappointed in this series. I think they tried to spin about four hours of material into ten hour-long segments, and I would have been MUCH happier if they had trimmed out the excess.

We love Sci-fi. I'm looking forward to seeing the recreation of Battlestar Galactica that should start in a week. I thought that "Taken" would be fascinating, but it repeated and rehashed the same material for several episodes, and then threw in a couple of hours of totally unnecessary, unrelated material. Now we're down to the last 45 minutes, and I'll be relieved when it's over.

Where do I cast my vote to discourage wasting my time in the future??

...the vote in this house for taken was "it's alright but..." - personally I gave up about episode 5 :^)...

We finally saw the ending, and it felt like there was a LOT of build up for a really nothing ending. The child's choice is to stay or to go. Big deal. Probably the most interesting thing to me was their choice to make the aliens curious rather than aggressive. In all.....not worth the twenty hours invested.

I never saw that one when it was on here. I loved the X files when it first started..until it went all silly.

...oh, and thornbirds - piece of crap :^)...shogun - bit better but not as good as the book...brideshead revisited - wonderful...the reason jeremy irons gets oscars and stuff is because he was never rewarded for his role in bh :^)...oh, yeah - imho :^)...
