Daybreak

I was trying to sleep this morning around 6:30 when I heard this insistent beeping. Four short beeps and a pause, four short beeps and a pause, four short beeps..... You get the picture.

My first thought was that the smoke alarm went off. But the smoke alarm has one long high pitched scream of a sound. Then, I thought that Mother was listening to the messages on her answering machine.....or perhaps the answering machine was signaling that there were messages to be read. Just about the time I thought I should check on DH, he opened the door and said that the noise was his cell phone.

It seems that phone has the ability to ring louder in "Alert" mode, so that DH can hear it over construction noise. The sender of the message presses a button to switch to "Alert" mode. So.....someone out there was sending my husband a message at 6:30 in the morning, waking up the entire neighborhood!

He figures one of the construction crew brushed against their phone and set it off accidentally. Sure sounds unlikely to me. I'm going to put that phone out of it's misery and recycle a little leftover mortar at the same time!

So....I made a cup of tea and sat near the big window in the kitchen as the sun came up. The sky was overcast with pearly clouds that lost their luminescence as the light grew. Then several clouds turned a deep rose. Moments later the tallest trees looked like they were afire as the rays of the sun found them. I hadn't realized their leaves had begun to turn color. The very top, and the east side of the trees were a golden yellow; the west side still had shades of green.

Today was a glorious summer day, the kind we remember when winter closes in around us. Absorb all the golden sunshine, and glorious color you can, for all too soon the earth will be sleeping.

Nice to be able to enjoy an unexpected gift. Before you know it, we will be slogging through slush.

I don't know how many calls we have gotten from Harry, a contractor. We answer the phone and all we hear is the banging of hammers and the buzzing of saws.

We'll yell into the phone, "HARRY, TURN OFF YOUR PHONE!" to no avail. It may sound far-fetched, but it certainly does happen.

...I once turned my phone on to find a recorded message - a colleague had sent me a 35 minute lesson..instead of switching her phone off she had hit dial...and it is wet and miserable here :^(...it is deffo near winter...

Kill the contractor, hurt the hubby's phone, but enjoy one of the nicest, free light shows know to people. Can't beat starting a day off like that no matter the cost.

I guess it was a good thing that you got awoken so early! Yes, a nice day. We are having a few of them and itisso enjoyable... they are in short supply these days.

Hubby sets his cell phone for those alarms ~ they start off slowly to where it wakes me and me digging around to knock something out ~ then grows louder and brings me wide awake to realize it is coming from the bathroom while hubby lies snoring his ass off in sleepless wonder before I belt him one!!! Mornings around here are never pleasant *huge smile* go figure!!!

Bogie, we've had similar calls. I need to get a hard case for my phone, because it gets jostled in my purse and occasionally sends out a call.

I take it that you've all figured out I'm slow to wake! lol Sunday morning was lovely, and well worth the initial irritation. I'm getting to be a morning person as I get older, so I hope there are a lot of lovely sunrises coming my way.
