Pet Peeves

One of the blogs I manage was discussing pet peeves this week. When one of the members asked what our pet peeves were, I immediately thought of all the little irritating physical things that drive me crazy, like crunching ice, chewing gum with your mouth open, or picking your nose in public! There was a particularly funny set of posts about a mate who stuffed his wife's head under the quilts and "fluffed the covers." We amassed a long list of little things before one of the members said "bullies."

Now, that's REALLY a pet peeve, and so is lying. Another that bothers me is the person who can see that half a mile ahead he or she will have to merge into the next lane....and they FLY up that lane, and expect you to let them in.
All three of these things show insensitivity to others, and less than sterling ethics. Unfortunately, we have hordes of people who succumb to this behavior.

Another behavior that angers most people is interrupting someone who is speaking. I confess, I'm bad about this, and I really try not to do this. Apparently I've learned it from my family, who are almost all talkers and not much at listening. So far, I've noticed that my mother, my oldest sister and one of my nieces can talk right over whatever I've been saying. It's not easy to teach yourself to be a listener when you've barged right in on others for years, but it's well worth the effort to change the habit.

What frosts your cookies?

You hit most of the better ones, but I had somthing to say at my place.

I detest spitting!

I have many (too many?)
Family members leaving their dishes on the couner above the dishwasher (not beding down, opening it and placing the dishes in)
Toilet seat left up!
Interrupters (kids will ALWAYS do it when I get on the phone

when the kids walk in the house (past the entry) with shoes/boots on.

Eldest son putting on his huge backpack before bending down to put his shoes on in the morning

.... and more... but I need to sleep. Night!

I really should track back and make my own little post on this one. Yet, well, this is me we are talking about *huge huge smile*. I'm on the "blog" you are talking about and I refused to post my pet peeves because it would have turned ugly quickly. I respect you way too much for you to have to endure, yet again, a go between because of my posting.

My largest pet peeve as an adult ~ is those who lie!!! Those who will lie and then look one in the eye and call them a liar and not stop there but call them a hypicrate as well because well they stated the true facts of a situation!!! Not a simple white lie to protect some one but a large lie because if benifits their whole thought process and way of life. My second, those who are always, no matter what the discussion, one better than ANYONE!!! And if they can't up them, they still manage to make the topic about them!!! *I know makes no sense to anyone but me* ~ Third ~ glass houses ~ they are hell aren't they? The whole shattering of the glass and the nicks and hopefully deeply wounded, perferably artery *again however you spell it*, is what gets me. I've always been told ~ one should not live in glass houses because they WILL shatter around you!!! Saying that I will say this ~ it also makes me sad ~ believe it or not ~ that someone surrounds themselves in such an illusion of a glass house that they can't see 1 inch before them with being scathed. That is my more sensitive side, which isn't shown often!!! I refused to post my pet peeves on the "blog" you host for those reasons alone would put a person I respect highly in a situation that doesn't need to be in that situation!! I'm not better than anyone else, I just highly respectful of Buffy!!!

Ah yes, the ones who turn any topic to themselves. We have a friend whose girlfriend does that. Her favorite line is "you think that's bad . . ." then goes on a 10 minute (if your lucky it's that short) diatribe. She says that line regardless of whether we were talking about something "bad" or not.

...people who can't queue :^)...yesterday I nearly got all shouty and beligerant (I was emotionally disturbed) with two people who joined a queue we had been in for 45 minutes - it turned out that they then just walked away after having talked to the person 3 in front of us...so it was a good job carolyn was holding me back :^)...

Izzy:

Pet peeves...ah yes. I actually have a whole bunch of them. So many, in fact, that one day I started writing them down and I ended up with 50 of them. I've put them on my about page if any of you wanna peruse them.

'Dude......maybe the subject of frosting your cookies should be part of the coming writing marathon! lol

^5 Dr. D. That's a good one!

Des, what is it about a Mom on the telephone that draws kids? It's like a magnet when you need a moment of silence, and it seems to be universal!

For those of you who were confused....Jamie is on the same YAHOOGROUP that I am on..... I don't like liars, either, Jamie.

I'd hide from her, bogie! I try to tie what people say to me to things I've experienced. I hope I don't give the impression that my experience is better....it's just similar, and a way to empathize. I hope I haven't been offensive.

We don't queue very well here, billy. We can't spell it, for one thing, and we have too many people who believe in breaking rules. It's the nature of the US, I guess.

HI, Izzy...welcome. I like your list....especially 11, 13, 31 and 42.

Ah, I stand corrected. It was I who used the word "blog" when I meant to say "YahooGroup." Thanks, Jamie, for bringing that to my attention.
