Making Faces

Have you ever stood before a mirror and practiced a look??

I think I've done this just once, preparing a smile for a photo shoot. But, I understand that it's a pretty common thing. I wonder if young girls practice looks to lure boy friends, or if their 20 year old counterparts practice sensual looks to melt their lovers? Do BOYS practice looks in the mirror??? God....the thought must send teenage girls into gales of giggles.

Why do we need to practice a look? Is it to be sure that we are communicating correctly? Or are we putting our best foot forward? Or is it possible we really don't know what we look like when we move our muscles?

Let's see.....I think I have the "Lady Astor" look down pat. You know the one....where someone tilts her head back, raises one eyebrow, and looks down her nose at you?? I've got that one perfected. I learned it watching my Mother. I think I need a LOT of work on the "Sultry Siren" look. I can't do it yet with out laughing, and it spoils the effect.

I'm gonna go off and think about other looks I need to practice on. I hope you all have a good night.

Your post gave me occasion to pause and contemplate what you were saying. I read somewhere that when one paints or sketches a portrait it will always have the greatest likeness to the artist - and that is certainly true for me when I sketch female faces. If all we had is rippling brooks (or tin foil) to check our reflexion in, would that still be the case? Would our practiced sexy looks be less sexy without mirrors? I know one think if a fellow carries a comb, he probably does practice looks as well - if not his face, then practices flexing his muscles.

I've been told I have many looks down pat, that I disagree with, the you've crossed a line look, the f*** you look, so on so forth.....as far as sensual looks, I guess I need to perfect them *S* as I don't recall anyone saying I had a "sensual look" ~ sexy voice another matter all together huh? Great post yet again MOM *S*

Roberta, I didn't think about "looks" before we had the convenience of mirrors. Since Narcissus has been with us for more than two millenia, I suspect that perfecting looks has been around for a long time, too. I guess this is just a quirky subject to me because I tend not to use mirrors much.

Jamie.....and there's the "Bite Me" look, and the "NOT" look, and the "I think I'll tease Speed" look. My favorite though is the "CAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWFEEEEEEEEE" look. *GRINS*
