Insomnia

I used to sleep like a rock. For years I could fall asleep just about anywhere, and sleep for 8 to 10 hours. I'm pretty sure that I've slept through at least two tornadoes. I never understood insomnia.

Well, tonight I have insomnia, and I have it bad! Over the past year I've developed a lot of discomfort that peaks when I'm trying to sleep. The doc thinks it's arthritis. During the day I keep busy, and generally ignore the discomfort, but when I stretch out in bed, I'm likely to toss and turn, trying to find a comfortable position.

DH made it to bed tonight before I did, and between his snoring, and my aches, I just gave up and came to my computer. The one disadvantage about talking to people around the world is that they are generally not on line when you are! So....you get TWO posts for the day....and maybe more later on! *G*

What do YOU do when you can't sleep?? Besides the very obvious (GRINS), I find that working in the office helps, or a small glass of wine, or sometimes reading a book. But you have to be careful about that book. If it's too interesting, it can keep you up all night long, and defeat your purpose. I think I may find out why so many of my quilting friends quilt in the middle of the night! lol

I wish you all sweet dreams!

Sweet dreams to you too... hopefully the sleep will come easier now.

I used to be the one to roll around in bed and wake often and easy, now I guess not as hubby tells me of things that happened during the night I was not aware of such as a sick kid, or me snoring (OMG... me snore??! - so he says).. or something with the dogs. It is great to have the ease in sleeping now. Guess I did my time when the kids were infants and now I can no longer be the lighter sleeper of us two.

I feel your pain ~ insomnia hits me often I'm afraid except my insomnia is a pretty sure bet I'm up all night ~ because when I finally can drift off to sleep I know the alarm is about to go off to get GQ14 and hubby to rise and shine. I use to be able to sleep anywhere at any time through anything, but the older I'm getting the harder sleep is for me. I'm up wandering around thorugh out the night no matter how early or how late I go to bed. I'm sure the dogs walking on me to wake me up to go potty has a great deal to do with it but non the less, my best sleep time is from the time hubby and GQ14 are awake and moving around till Miss Prissy comes and slaps me asking for breakfast and cartoons. Then I'm begging for coffeeeeeeee!!!!!!

Desiree, We've changed sleep roles, too! DH used to sleep so lightly that I couldn't roll over in bed without waking him. If I stayed up later than he did, just walking into the room would wake him. Now, I could bomb the house and he'd sleep through it. I think part of that light sleeping was that he was a single Dad and hadn't yet made it to the point where he didn't have to worry about the kids.

My family swears that we keep them awake at night with the snoring in our room. Moi??? Snore?? It's not possible! Wait.....there was the day I woke myself up with a snore when I was sleeping in my chair in the living room....but that SURELY is the exception to the rule! *G*

Yes, the sleep finally came. I probably got about six hours, so I'll be ready to sleep tonight.

Jamie, I don't know how you manage on such little sleep! I'm sure the dogs walking on me would wake me up, too, but I'd be likely to shout at them and roll over, knowing that Fred would save me (and them).

The good thing about you going to bed as the guys are getting up is that they both have the bathrooms to themselves. You know Fred rises at 4:30. Generally, I don't get up that early. We've discovered that it's wiser to give him the unobstructed run of the bathroom and kitchen before he goes, so I just stay out of the way. Mother used to gravitate to the kitchen and then stand where he needed to be. It's a blessing that she's sleeping a little later now! lol

Sorry you and DH changed the sleeping roles, but glad that Greatone and I did!

Buffy, I'm no expert - I'm just guessing but after I had a back x-ray the doctor told me I had arthritis. My bones ached especially at night. Some time later I started taking 1200 mg/d of calcium and it all came to an end. This is absolutely the only vitamin (or even medication) that I take and no one was more surprised than me because I ate oodles of chunk Cheddar and drank lots of milk. It may not help you but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Buffy:

Desiree, you've earned your sleep! lol I don't begrudge you the rest, at all.

Roberta.....I was thinking about taking Calcitrate, but maybe I'll try just calcium and see if that helps. I was very surprised that my doctor didn't suggest anything more than a one a day anti-inflammatory. I'd rather work on the cause than just treat the symptoms.

Fred's response....."More ice cream!"

Thanks for the information.

I don't know but it sounds awfully like my sciatica...
