Last week I had my head down, ploughing through the work on my desk so that we could take a three-day weekend to visit with my sister, Nan, for her birthday. I didn’t have much time to read my e-mail and even less to visit my favorite blogs.
I was irritated this morning to learn that I had missed wishing one of my favorite on-line and real life friends “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” How could I have forgotten?! Luckily, Bogie, her daughter, bid her mother a happy birthday, so I figured out my error.
No doubt I have missed a whole lot of birthdays on-line. I hope you all had wonderful celebrations of your special day.
So…COP CAR…..I missed the right day, but I hope you know that my wish is most sincere, when I tell you that I hope you had a great day, and that you did something special to commemorate the momentous occasion of your birth! *G* Happy Birthday, my friend!.
Go read what Cop Car has to say on April 20th. I like her thoughts about what the focus of our election should and should NOT be! Way to go, CC!
Thank you for the wishes, dear Buffy. Mom didn’t raise me to expect the world to stop to celebrate my birthday! She did, however, raise me to expect a red velvet chocolate cake for my birthday–even mailing one to me at college (which the guys in our amateur radio club really, really appreciated).
I did, indeed, do something special, this birthday. Hunky Husband took me to lunch at one of the local Olive Gardens, at which I had, not only their delicious apricot chicken, but their Black Tie Mousse Cake. Somewhere, online, is a recipe to mimic this great dessert. (I don’t know how long it had been since my last dessert, but this one is to die for!)
Cop Car, we celebrate just about the same way you do. The celebrant gets to choose the restaurant of his or her choice. We don’t make a huge deal out of birthdays, but we try to send cards or make calls, so that people know we remember it’s their special day. I’m sorta the black sheep of the family when it comes to cards and remembering birthdays, can’t you tell?? *G*
WOWWW…..YOU ate Black Tie Mousse Cake?? I’m going to have to get over to Olive Garden to see what that’s all about. If ya can’t get a red velvet chocolate cake, I guess this must be the next best thing!
I’m glad you had a good day, CC!
Th BTMC is a dessert that Elder Brother, Expert Seamstress, and I stumbled into when we stopped at the Olive Garden that is near McGuckins Hardware in Boulder CO. (We try to sneak a trip in to McGuckins whenever I’m at their house–I’m a hardware store junkie.) Much to my disappointment, when Elegant Friend took me to one of the local Olive Gardens for my subsequent birthday lunch, BTMC was not on their menu! Now, a couple of years later, I was surprised and happy to discover that the OG where HH took me did, indeed, serve the treat. You may or may not care for BTMC; but, you gotta try it if you find it on a menu.
The recipe is at the Razzle Dazzle web site, http://www.razzledazzlerecipes.com/eatingout/eating_o/black-tie-mousse-cake.htm. Unfortunately, it uses a boxed mix for the bottom layer–something I would never do since I have Mom’s recipe for red velvet chocolate cake (known in our family as Mrs Hart’s Cocoa Cake).
I looked up the recipe, Cop Car…..and we better hope that this dessert is at my local Olive Garden! It’s really complex, and not for beginners. I’m glad for you that they decided to carry this again. I can see that there are plenty of memories tied to this dessert! *S*
Is your mother’s red chocolate cake recipe on your recipe site??
Clarification: I don’t think that the local OGs started/stopped/started serving the BTMC; but, rather that the OG to which Elegant Friend and I had gone serves a different clientele from the one to which HH and I went.
I haven’t made the darned thing for two reasons: 1) laziness–it takes a lot of work to make all of those layers and to decorate it and 2) I would eat too much of it. It is better to buy one piece at a time! HH hasn’t tried it, yet, because he opted for chocolate ice cream.
Yes, indeed, Cocoa Cake is listed at: http://copcar.typepad.com/cop_cars_chow/2005/09/cocoa_cake.html. Tell you what–I will start putting up my recipes on my new blog, leading off with the Cocoa Cake.
I think your reasoning is very sound. You’d have this huge cake and the obligation not to waste any of it. It doesn’t sound like HH would help you with it. Dear Husband would have ordered ice cream, too.
I’m so glad to see that you will be posting your recipes. I’m sure that Mrs’ Hart’s Cocoa Cake will find it’s way into my recipe book! *G*
