One more garden thought…

I know that you will see this before you get to the next entry, so this thought is a little out of order, but related.
I had the pleasure of working in the front garden yesterday. I decided to deadhead daffodils, and worked for an hour clipping them back. I need another hour. I think I might have gotten about half of them done. It was an incredibly prolific year for daffodils.
While I was there, I took the time to trim back the Russian sage, which has a nice start. I also pruned dead branches off the redbud, and cleared some weeds from the mulched bed. It’s VERY satisfying to know that so little effort can make such a difference in the appearance of the gardens.

  1. I love Russian Sage, but can never keep it alive for more than 2 years. I’ve tried different spots and still no luck. I was out in the front gardens yesterday looking at yet another dead sage plant (okay, it is a bit early to make the determination, but my experience tells me this one is a-gonner). I need secrets for growing it (unless it involves babying!).

  2. Bogie, there are a lot of varieties, and I seem to have gotten one that is more prostrate. I really want the one that grows in the shape of a blue flame. The one I have is healthy, and returns, but it just doesn’t seem to stand up and make the statement that I want in that part of the garden. I may add butterfly bush this year.
If I learn any secrets about Russian sage, I’ll be sure to let you know.
