It’s cookie day today. That is, it’s cookie day today if I can ever get myself in gear. I hope to make several family favorites that aren’t what you normally think of as Christmas cookies: sugar crisp, brownies, spicy nut slices, and peanut butter cookies. If there is time, and the body is willing, I’ll make Raspberry Ribbons, and Russian Tea cakes. The raspberry ribbon is a lovely sugar-type cookie that is rolled out in tubes, and a depression is made lengthwise in the tube of dough to hold raspberry jam. After it’s baked, you drizzle glaze over the tubes and cut them into one-bite diamonds. SO yummy!
Tomorrow I plan to cook brisket for “Mom’s Barbecue.” We’ve been invited to share Christmas Eve with my oldest sister and her family, and she was willing to let me make the barbecue that we’ve had on Christmas Eve for the last twenty years or more. While the brisket is cooking, I’ll be wrapping gifts. Dear Husband assures me that we have all the gifts on our list, so the shopping is done.
I hope you’re all enjoying the holidays. What’s the purpose of all the preparation if we don’t enjoy what we are doing? Merry Christmas!
Buffy–Just because you are a decade or so younger than I, you don’t have to rub it in by doing a week’s worth of work (if I were doing it) in one day. Gadzooks, and it sounds wonderful!
I have not made any goodies since we had the family gathering the week of Thanksgiving (I can’t stand the temptation – and we just finished them off a few days ago). A week ago, I weighed myself for the first time since August and, sadly, discovered 15 more pounds on my frame. So…until those 15 pounds are gone, HH is bearing with me in the goodies department. Well…he still has his three boxes of candy next to his chair in the living room and a jar full of Oreos in the kitche; but, strangely enough, those are not the lure to me that home-made goodies are.
Enjoy the brisket with your family. You have a lot of family history to savor with the meal. Your mother was truly an elegant lady.
HAHAHAHAH!! Don’t worry, Cop Car, you STILL have more energy than I do! lol I made a LOT of dough yesterday, and baked the brownies. I’ve made everything else except the tea cakes this morning. I’m running a little behind, but I think I can still get everything done. *S*
I absolutely understand about the draw of the homemade stuff. Luckily, MOST of what I’m working on will go into gift boxes and trays for this weekend. I’ll make sure a little bit is left, but having a lot of it around is the kiss of death for my won’t power. My recent a1C test results were good, and I’d like to lower them even more, so sharing will be good for my health.
