Why is it that blogging ideas only come to me when I can’t write them down???
I draft wonderful opening lines when I’m in the shower. Sentences roll out of my mind when I am driving, or when I have gone out of the house without a notebook or pad of paper. The perfect idea for a blog entry bursts into my brain just as my pen goes dry.
Last year, as I drove through central Illinois and Indiana, I had a hand-held tape recorder with me. Everything I saw on that trip was grist for the blog when I returned, and I managed not to tape over any of the information.
But, it’s hard to keep the tape recorder to hand. I need to make a fanny pack for it, or an Amish pocket. I wonder if Dear Husband will object to me murmuring into the recorder in the middle of the night?
Wouldn’t a tape recorder/digital camera be the perfect gift for a blogger?
How do you all keep those ideas in your mind until it’s time to write???
Since they suck all my brains out at work, I don’t even bother trying to remember anything. If I am in the house and think of a subject I will run down to the den and write it down on a small (3 x 5) notepad that sits by the computer. Otherwise, I’m SOL.
I don’t…I’m exactly like you. It gets to be that by the time I get to the blog at times I feel like I’m rambling. Just so much to say on a variety of topics. It’s either that or, like you I dry up and don’t write at all.
You can tell: it is obvious: I don’t. Blogging rarely occurs to me when I am not seated at my computer. Obviously, I am not meant to be a writer! (I’m glad that you are!)
Buffy, I agree with you totally. I can’t rememebr how many times that I’ve known exactly what to say in my blog when doing the housework. or in the shower or walking down the road. Only to forget every word when seated in front of my p.c. When I was at work I had a similar phenomenon – many times I would think what to write in an e-mail or letter while waiting for a tube train to arrive. It was relatively easy then to carry around a pen and note-pad to jot down ideas or phrases on a case ready for the next workday. The thing is like you say it isn’t easy to carry around a notepad and pen, or my pda everywhere I go in the house or garden. It looks silly to carry my handbag everywhere in the house.
So much like the Queen, who at least has the excuse of having to hike for ages to get back to her own room if she forgets something.
I have to admit that I do not yet own a digital camera. But I do want one. A bit expensive but I will still add it to my Christmas list.
(laughing at the first line…..) Bogie, it never feels to me that you struggle for ideas to blog about. I suspect that they must be fermenting in the back of your brain on the days you don’t make notes.
Pennie, I’ve noticed that some people do short entries that have just one subject. Usually what happens to me is that I have several thoughts that interact, and I end up with a post so long that no one has the stamina to read all the way to the end. Maybe the key is short bursts of blog.
CC….that really surprises me! I know how busy you are, but I’m surprised that ideas don’t come to you when you are out with friends, or working for the American Red Cross, or taking classes. I think that I need more interaction with people beyond my four walls. My home is wonderful, but makes for a very insular life.
I don’t think you need to worry about the quality of your writing. I love reading your blog.
(…laughing at the thought of carrying my purse around the house) Adele, I knew you’d be my twin!
I don’t have a digital camera yet, either. Like you, I’ll put it on my Christmas wish list. My camera shopping was put on hold by the need for a new roof!
Then I also get ideas from other bloggers and write them down later for later. I don’t always use them but don’t be surprised by a post (sometime later in the weekend maybe) that is a direct result of this discussion.
That seems totally fair to me. *G* I’ll be over to visit this weekend.
