Trip Notes, Part 2

Faces in trucks with neatly trimmed white beards. A LOT of guys in the rural area have decided that beards are “in,” and it seems a lot of them happen to have white hair! There were one or two I would have liked to stop and chat with! *G*

Bean fields in Central Illinois are already being harvested. The empty fields show carmel colored stubble, but an hour north the beans are still green, starting to change to a lemony yellow….no where near harvest. Usually the beans stay in the field to dry. Frequently, they are the last crop to be harvested, and I’ve seen beans in the fields in November waiting for the combine. We must have had incredibly good weather this Spring, for the farmers to get the fields planted, and it’s been a dry September. I’m sure the farmers are taking advantage of the continuing dry weather to harvest.
The people of Fowler, Indiana pave planted a 3-6 foot wide bank of cosmos that is easily a block long. It’s gorgeous, heavy with blooms in deep burgundy, rose, pink, and white. That was an incredibly simple thing to do to bring a little beauty into our lives. Thank you, Fowler!
As I drove east through the Indiana fields I realized that all the equipment on the NORTH side of the road was red…the color of Case farm implements. On the SOUTH side of the road, the equipment was the famous green with a yellow stripe of John Deere. I wonder if the equipment dealers have created a “Color War” along the side of the road??
Turn right for Badger Grove Church.
Later…..now I see green on both sides of the road. The “color wars” must have eased a bit.
Getting ready for winter, they’ve laid fresh tar on the road and covered it with loose gravel. Four cars are headed out of town, limited to the 40 mph of the first cautious car, and the clouds of dust enveloping our parade. Visibility was nil for a bit.
Heard on the radio……”On the subject of prayer in school: As long as there is algebra, there will be prayer in school.”
In Delphi, Indiana (most likely part of the Bible belt): “Reborn Auto Sales.”
Upper Deer Creek Church

Then, I forgot to turn my recorder off…and the rest of the trip comments were lost. Luckily, I was almost there.
Thanks guys, for a lovely weekend, and for giving me the chance to commune with Nature as I came to visit!
