And all the mothers who DON’T.
\nThis is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they’ll never see.
\nAnd the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.
\nThis is for all the mothers who froze their buns off on metal
\nbleachers at football or soccer games Friday night, so that when
\ntheir kids asked, “Did you see me?” they could say, “Of course, I
\nwouldn’t have missed it for the world,”…. and mean it.
\nThis is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in the grocery
\nstore in despair. Because their kids stomp their feet like a tired 2-
\nyear old who wants ice cream before dinner.
\nThis is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and
\nexplained all about making babies. And for all the mothers who wanted
\nto but just couldn’t.
\nFor all the mothers who read “Goodnight, Moon” twice a night for a
\nyear. And then read it again. “Just one more time.”
\nThis is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their
\nshoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who
\nopted for Velcro instead.
\nThis is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their
\ndaughters to sink a jump shot.
\nThis is for all mothers whose heads turn automatically when a little
\nvoice calls “Mom?” in a crowd, even though they know their own off
\nspring are at home.
\nThis is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with
\nstomach aches, assuring them they’d be just FINE once they got there,
\nonly to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to
\nplease pick them up. Right away.
\nThis is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can’t find
\nthe words to reach them.
\nFor all the mothers who bite their lips sometimes until they bleed –
\nwhen their 14 year olds dye their hair green.
\nWhat makes a good Mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad
\nhips? The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a
\nshirt, all at the same time?
\nOr is it heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or
\ndaughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the
\nvery first time?
\nThe jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2
\nA.M. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby?
\nThe need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you
\nhear news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying?
\nFor all the mothers of the victims of all these school shootings, and
\nthe mothers of those who did the shooting. For the mothers of the
\nsurvivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror,
\nhugging their child who just came home from school, safely.
\nThis is for mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears on their
\nchildren’s graves.
\nThis is for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep
\ndeprivation.
\nAnd mature mothers learning to let go. For working mothers and stay-
\nat-home mothers.
\nSingle mothers and married mothers.
\nMothers with money, mothers without.
\nThis is for you all.
\nSo hang in there.
\nHome is what catches you when you fall – and we all
\nfall.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I know most of us have seen this before, but its definitely worth repeating This is for all the mothers who have sat up all […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-17","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-interesting-to-me"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=17"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=17"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=17"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
