I&#8217;m afraid I&#8217;ve been rather lax in posting.<br \/>\nI have been keeping up (somewhat) with my reads, and the other day was reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madbull4.net\/weblog\/archives\/000865.html#000865\">THIS<\/a> the other day over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madbull4.net\/weblog\/\">MadBull&#8217;s<\/a> blog, and one of the questions in the comments got me thinking (*authors note, I never said my posts had to make allot of sense!*)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Or should the state be able to dictate what we can or cannot use?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So naturally with the way my mind works at times, and considering &#8220;freedom&#8221; has been banded about allot here lately&#8230;how much right does the state and\/or country we live in have to tell us what we can do and how to live our lives?<br \/>\nNow obviously there are &#8216;no brainers&#8217; when it comes to this&#8230;if you kill someone obviously you&#8217;re going to go to jail (or at least I hope you are!) rob someone, assault, etc&#8230;you get my point here, but what I&#8217;m referring to are things that allot of people take for granted&#8230;and some of you might want to stop reading right here&#8230;.<br \/>\nIn every state in the US., in every country across the world (I&#8217;m fairly certain) if you are married in another state\/country, if you move, that marriage is recognized&#8230;<br \/>\n<b>IF<\/b> you are a man and a woman<br \/>\n<b>HOWEVER<\/b>, if you are a same-sex couple, <b>even if<\/b> the marriage is legal where you obtained it, if you move somewhere where it&#8217;s <b>not<\/b> (legally) recognized, thats tough, you&#8217;re out of luck<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cga.state.ct.us\/2002\/olrdata\/jud\/rpt\/2002-R-0841.htm\">U. S. and State Laws Defining Marriage<\/a>.<\/i> In 1996, Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA, P. L. 104-199). That law limits marriage, for federal program purposes, to unions of one man and one woman. It provides that a state cannot be forced to recognize another state or country&#8217;s statutory or judge-made laws extending marriage to same-sex couples. <br \/>\nBetween 1996 and 2000, 36 states passed laws generally modeled on the federal DOMA.
