Have you ever had one of those days when everything looks fine on paper, but the reality misses the mark by a mile??
\nThat would describe today.<\/p>\n
\nMy family has given me their collective cold. I had to run a couple of errands, and then I came home to start working on dinner. My niece and her sons were going to join us. I have been a little under the weather for a couple of days, but it wasn’t anything that would cause me to cancel the get together.
\nI had planned a pork roast, a new recipe for scalloped potatoes and ham, green beans, a green salad, and a variation on the apple\/dried cranberry pie that was so good last year.
\nThe roast had not cooked all the way through by the time dinner needed to be served. The new potato recipe had great flavor, but the potatoes in the interior of the casserole were under cooked, too.
\nI had a package of dried mixed berries, including cranberries, which I used in place of just cranberries, in the pie. I’d used a ready made crust, but the rest of the pie was from scratch. On paper, it looked like it would be really good, but the mixed berries made for a very odd taste.
\nEveryone did their best to put a good face on the situation. We ate salad while we waited for the roast to finish cooking. The outer edges of the potatoes tasted fine, and we all ate our pie, despite the comments being traded. Still, it was one of the worst meals I can remember preparing, and I’m really ticked to have put so much effort into it, and have it turn out so badly.
\nAnd now, the cold has bloomed. My throat is scratchy, and I can tell that I will have to work not to be crabby tomorrow.
