I figured that Dear Husband’s kids deserved the same effort.
\nNext year, when we do this again, remind me….NO GREEN! NO SALADS!!!
\nI swear, I had a brain spasm. I don’t know what I was thinking! I was in the kitchen at seven, and the kids weren’t coming until some time after two. There would be four additional adults at the table, and one granddaughter. I made enough to feed the entire neighborhood.<\/p>\n

\nI made potato salad, tuna macaroni salad, fruit salad, green salad, tomato-cucumber vinaigrette, deviled eggs, tomato bruchetta, spinach dip, grilled onions and peppers. I put out chips, buns, condiments, olives and pickles. I made brownies from scratch, and offered slices of cinnamon loaf cake, and watermelon. Dear Husband grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and brats.
\nMy oldest sister, upon hearing all that, said her kids would be lined up behind my shoulder, salivating, waiting for the dinner bell.
\nI’m not angry with Dear Husband’s kids. I should have known this was overkill. I should have remembered that they don’t care for salads. It just seemed as though I needed to do more for them.
\nNext year…if we should do this again…. Chips, burgers, watermelon, spinach dip and ice cream!
