Thursday, I discovered a book on my bookshelves that I didn’t know I had. I asked Elegant Mother if she had purchased the book. She didn’t know anything about it. It’s possible that I saw it somewhere and picked it up, but I simply can’t remember. It’s a shame really, because “Thief of Words” is a GREAT book!<\/p>\n
\nThis is a small book. The hardcover version is roughly 8.5 x 6 inches, and there are only 242 pages, but the story covers incredible ground.
\nIt packs in plagiarism, regrets, the baggage we carry with us as we mature, finding love at mid-life, the risk we take when we decide to open ourselves to others, memory, honesty, communication, incredible descriptive prose, familial relationships, friendships, vindictiveness, and more. I found it astonishing how such a short book could supply the grist for so many varied discussions.
\nI was so absorbed in the story I didn’t want to put the book down. It’s written by two authors (Jody Jaffe and John Muncie) writing under the name John Jaffe. I’d love to know how they divided the creation of this book. It’s beautifully crafted.
\nI identified with Annie when they wrote: “Maybe Trip was right, maybe she was a “pathological revealer.” ” How could I not take this woman to heart given that I share the minutiae of my life on this blog??
