There are days when I think there is nothing nicer than to have the chance to dine out.
\nLast Friday we had the opportunity to have dinner with old friends. We are all so busy that we only have the opportunity to get together a couple of times during the year. They picked us up at 7:00 Friday and drove us to a seafood restaurant that’s about half an hour east of us.
\nThe service was superb, the meal was exceptional. We dallied over dinner and then went to the bar for a last drink. Had we stayed for a second we would have closed the bar.<\/p>\n
\nWe had the most interesting appetizer. Nachos Chinois. The chef deep fried won tons and covered a plate with them. They were lightly covered with very finely shredded carrot, petite diced tomato, salad shrimp, a light sauce, a little Chinese five spice powder, and a modicum of jack cheese melted over it all to hold it together. Yummy, and a delightful variation on the more common nachos.
\nI had broiled Norwegian salmon, mashed potatoes and asparagus. We all decided to have dessert, and each of us ordered something different. I just needed a bit of sweet, so I ordered the sorbet. They served mixed berry, raspberry and lemon, in two inch egg-shaped scoops. I can’t pass up anything raspberry… *S*
\nSaturday night we had dinner with all of DH’s children at Greek Islands. Mmmm, Moussaka!!! I was astounded at the variety of meals ordered at that table. Two ordered lamb, three ordered various chicken entrees, one had sea bass one had red snapper, and I had the moussaka. I guess the kids are kids no longer. It seems as though just yesterday they were sitting in the car arguing about where to eat. DH always hoped they would learn the art of compromise, and it seems they have finally figured it out.
\nThis time of year dinner out is a wonderful treat. Everyone needs a little down time. Why not take it during meal times. No one has to cook, and no one has to clean up. Make it something festive and celebrate the chance to have a little quiet time together. If your appetite will wait, do your shopping during the dinner hour when shops are a bit quieter, and then have a relaxing dinner later. Trust me; you’ll enjoy the season so<\/b> much more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
