I’ve always thought the tradition you tend to find on the East coast of using the mother’s maiden name for a son’s first name, was a cool idea. Obviously it works better with some names than others. Can you see a kid entering kindergarten with a moniker like Schwarzenegger Brown??<\/p>\n

\nNaming children was the subject of “At Random” in the Chicago Tribune<\/u>, today. The Social Security Administration has gathered information on the four million babies born in the year 2000. It seems that parents had a very material bent as they picked out names for those kids. There are 55 Chevys, 6 Timberlands and 7 DelMontes. Who in their right mind would name their child after a can of peas!??
\nSky, or Skye is a nice name, especially if the baby will inherit lovely blue eyes. But when you come across 29 kids with the name “Skyy” you have to assume at least one of their parents has a relationship with a vodka bottle. At least the seven boys named “Courvoisier” got classier names.
\nTwo babies were named “ESPN.” Were they conceived during the commercials?? Do their dads hope they will become sports announcers? Perhaps English is the second language in that household, and they need to study a little more.
\nSpeaking of English as a second language, I understand a recent immigrant to the US named her daughter “Placenta” because it had such a lovely sound to it.
