{"id":2196,"date":"2014-02-22T06:34:24","date_gmt":"2014-02-22T13:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/?p=2196"},"modified":"2014-02-22T06:34:24","modified_gmt":"2014-02-22T13:34:24","slug":"visitors-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/visitors-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have been in our home twenty-five years. \u00a0We spend a lot of time looking out the windows at the wildlife. \u00a0I knew there were two species out there that I hadn&#8217;t seen, but this was my year to see them!<\/p>\n<p>We have been seeing robins through out the winter! \u00a0About fifteen years ago I attended an Empty Nester breakfast with my mother, (I know&#8230;that sounds odd. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0She lived with us.) \u00a0There was a speaker following the breakfast, who talked about local birds, and she said that we have robins year round. \u00a0I&#8217;m sure I made a face when she said that, because I had NEVER seen a robin in the winter. \u00a0Well, the woman was right. \u00a0I have no idea what they are eating, bur we have seen robins all through the winter, despite the fact that it&#8217;s been one of the worst winters on record. \u00a0Mother and DH and I used to have a race to see who was the first to sight a robin in the spring, \u00a0Little did we know that our birding skills were sadly lacking.<\/p>\n<p>The second species that I have finally seen is coyote. \u00a0I&#8217;ve heard them, and seen them a mile away. \u00a0I&#8217;ve heard neighbors talking about being afraid for their small children and dogs, but I&#8217;d never seen one on our land. \u00a0In the last six weeks I&#8217;ve seen at least three. \u00a0The first looked pretty bad. \u00a0It&#8217;s fur looked torn, and it was emaciated. \u00a0No doubt anything it was used to eating was hibernating, and feet of snow weren&#8217;t making things any easier.<\/p>\n<p>I saw a second trotting through north of the house, on an east to west route. \u00a0It looked as though it planned to cut through all the back yards as it hunted. \u00a0The third was a healthy looking young adult, sitting at the base of a choke cherry shrub quietly watching for any bird activity at the feeder. \u00a0We had a freak day of rain, following six weeks of arctic freeze and about 60 inches of snow. \u00a0The coyote was sitting quietly in the downpour, hoping for a bit of breakfast. \u00a0When he saw me watching him, he moved off to the north. \u00a0This winter has been really tough for anything that doesn&#8217;t have shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Robins and coyotes. \u00a0I wonder what else we will see before we move?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have been in our home twenty-five years. \u00a0We spend a lot of time looking out the windows at the wildlife. \u00a0I knew there were two species out there that I hadn&#8217;t seen, but this was my year to see &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/visitors-5\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,3],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2196"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2196"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2196\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2197,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2196\/revisions\/2197"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2196"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2196"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.redeaglespirit.com\/arrrgh\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2196"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
