Could you PLEASE explain to me why someone in a third world country feels it’s appropriate to spam my blog? It’s not like I have a gazillion readers, and by now you’d think they would have figured out that most comments have to be approved, and I’m just dumping them in the trash.
Please, you turkeys, go find someplace else to roost!
(Now, watch, it will take me hours to clean out all the comments. Sheesh!)
Give it to them Buffy!
Buffy–You may as well save your breath/fingers. Most spam is not sent one piece at a time, but generated automatically. *sigh* Does your blog platform allow you to opt out of being searchable by search engines? It cuts down on readership, perhaps, but it definitely stalls out the spammers. I don’t remember the last time I was spammed (maybe never since switching to TypePad that allows me the option.)
I will, Janeywan, as soon as I can find them! *G*
Cop Car, I was going to ask ~T~ (who hosts my blog), if it was possible to close down the comments for anything earlier than the current month. If that’s not possible I’ll ask her about what you’ve suggested. We use Moveable Type, and I’d think that they would offer an option like that. Thanks for your help!
Buffy–You reminded me that TypePad gives the “are you a human or a bot” test to attempt at posting a comment to an old posting. Even I am subjected to that testing on my own blog! I don’t recall what they deem to be the “old” date. To be effective, you may also need to have T switch you to a different URL since you have been using your current one in the “OK to search” mode. I dunno. T will.
hey Buffster, I haven’t forgotten you, I think it is possible to do this and am looking into it now, I will let you know!
testing something to see if it helps
Bless you, ~T~!! Its been irritating to have to come in and edit the comments, even when I have nothing to add to my blog. I know you’re busy, so I appreciate the time you’ve spent on this.
