The Petite Filet and I shot photos at a wedding this past Saturday. It was a nice occasion, and we got some great photos. The problem with starting out in modern photography, however, is that you've got to have top-notch equipment to capture the photos you want and compete with all the other photo jockeys out there. A photographer shouldn't charge the big bucks before using big-ticket equipment, yet it's hard to pay for said equipment if you're not making the big bucks. That's why I rented a lens for the wedding ...
It was a Canon 70-200mm f 2.8 (but any camera geeks out there already knew that). Very sharp. Hard to give back this morning. I think for my first upgrades, though, I'll go with shorter focal lengths. Sometimes it's not the size of your lens, but what you do with it.

I thought it was the motion of the ocean?
Very cool you and the PF do this together. Is this something you hope to do one day full-time?
I didn't know you could rent a lens. Good idea.
I hope you had a good time at the wedding.

Whoa, HUGE!
"Is that a huge rented lens in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"
;o)
That is the lens I have been wanting to buy for 3 years. Where can you rent it from? I'm a little envious, you're making money with the camera, that is cool. I got a Sonic gift card for taking pics at Little Ferd's football game and making them available on Flickr. It's a start.
