I realized recently that to have a side business/hobby taking pictures, it's best to have a camera. This is most important because we've*** already got a wedding on the sked for October. The bride, apparently, didn't appreciate my joke about using my Polaroid to capture her special day.
So today I ordered one of these ...

I've been using the first-generation DigiRebel at work for about three years now, and it's a solid little camera. I would have liked to get something a bit more hefty for some photo cred, but long ago I learned that photography is about pictures, not equipment. While having stuff is a necessary (and somewhat) fun evil, it's the shutter finger and eye of the camera holder that matters most. If my hobby turns a bit more serious, I'll opt for a magnesium-bodied wonderthingee and a range of lenses that each cost more than a used Buick. For now, this camera will make me giddy and much more obnoxious about taking pictures than I already am.
I used some birthday cash to offset the price, and the aforementioned wedding job should come close to compensating for the rest.
***Above, I said that "we've" got a photo job. For the first wedding we did (our services were gratis as a gift to the happy couple), the Petite Filet helped immensely in organizing the lame-o group shots that are part of most wedding jobs. She was efficient (sort of mean) and, using a list of shot-suggestions she compiled beforehand, we were able to knock out the separate bride and groom pix in a jiffy and a shake. It was also helpful having a female "assistant" (please don't tell her I called her that) to take candid shots as the bride and bridesmaids readied themselves. Because this is often a private occasion involving partial female nudity, and sometimes takes place in the ladies' room, it was a better-her-than-me kinda thing and she got some great photos, too.

this is what the recent college graduate is doing to hold herself afloat until the best job offer ever lands gently on her pillow overnight. she really enjoys it. she did a wedding in austin last weekend at this place, chapeldulcinea.com, which I think is the most beautiful little chapel in thue world.
i will not show her your new toy, she will drool on my keyboard.
Did the bride even know what the term, "polariod camera" was?
Cool..maybe this could be a fabulous second career!
Happy birthday, T!
Geez, now that my last daughter is married, you decide to be a wedding photog guru...
I will email you a site of a photographer that took some photos at Lara's wedding. Not sure what kind of equipment he used, I was too busy to pay that much attention, but his photo "eye" is very unusual.
Oh, and very merry birthday to you!
I do have camera envy now...
I say, "snap away." Who knows where camera panic might end?
Cooooool, I've got the XT version... what does the XTi give you? I have been praised for my sports photos and this weekend was approached about how someone could buy some of my photos while I was photoging Little Ferd's football game. You are so right about equipment, I still use a crappy old 75-300 mm zoom lens from my old analog camera with the digital XT. Takes great pics that won't land in Sports Illustrated but impress parents.
