We were talking briefly about serial monogamy in the office today, and I'm not exactly sure what it means. I have an idea, that it probably describes a person who is prone to enjoying a string of committed relationships, one at a time, that fall just short of marriage (serial matrimony would be someone who gets married multiple times; hoping that is also one at a time).
I'm married, happily, to the woman I hope is my first and last wife. As for cereal monogamy, it just isn't me. I was a diehard Cheerio fan growing up, but I also liked Rice Krispies (that was the sweetest cereal I was allowed; my little sister comes along and mainlines Cocao Puffs. How fair is that?).
I've experimented with Raisin Bran with good results, although a box of it seems to last freakin' forever (maybe it's really Rabbit Bran and it multiplies of its own will). In high school I liked Basic 4, although it kind of borders on the nuts-and-twigs Mueslix-type stuff. Tasty nonetheless. I didn't eat much cereal in college for some reason.
I like Smart Start (the original clustery stuff), but I tire of the marketing that targets women. Hey, I like it, too! And shredded wheat is OK I guess, if you can handle the aftertaste.
The closest to cereal monogamy I've come is Honey Bunches of Oats. I love that stuff! The problem is, now they've got all kinds of varieties. The original honey is good, but add the almonds? Bliss in a bowl. Even the stuff with the freeze-dried fruit is quite palatable, although I'm not a fan of the new cinnamon flavor (it's like sugary cardboard).
As the weather turns cold, I enjoy oatmeal. But not just any; I prefer Quaker Oats low sugar apples and cinnamon instant stuff. Gimme some hot chocolate and a piece of toast and I can face anything winter throws at me. In Texas, that may mean 90 degrees and a nose-melting sun. If that's the case, I'll take some Rabbit Bran, please, and some ice water.
I've been known to eat cereal for dinner if I've had a really long day. Something about starting and ending a day the same way just feels right sometimes. Until the waffle iron calls, and all bets are off.

I am a serial monogamist. I've had several long-term boyfriends where the relationships almost led to marriage, but stopped just short (much to my heartbreak).
As for cereal, I am a bigamist. My favorites are Life and Basic 4.
I am partial to Honey Bunches of Oats myself. But not to the point of cereal monogamy.
What do they do to the raisins in Raisin Bran? They are like little blobs of flavored rubber. You end up chewing on them for what seems like hours. All of that whining and I admit, I eat it anyway and like it. But as for my all time favorite? Cap'n Crunch of course! Mmmmm, sugary goodness. And now there's those frosted Cheerios. Mmmm, more sugary goodness. The generic bag cereals just haven't come up with an equivalant yet.
I'm making up for the times in my life when I was dating two men at a time (not all that often, don't think badly of me) by being completely date-less and celibate the last couple of years. It all balances out, right?
As for cereal, I love Grape Nuts with a banana. Alphabet before they reduced the sugar (what was that all about?) Now I eat honey nut cheerios because that's what LM lives on. I'm going to try to learn to like oatmeal this winter because it's so darn good for me (but the texture just makes my stomach churn.)
i too was not allowed sweet cereal. so for me, it is cheerios, rice krispies, raisin bran, chex, kix or corn flakes. anything else is a one night stand and i cannot commit to it.
For cereal I feel that adult obligation to eat whole grain and fiber and all that jazz so I'm a pretty solid Raisin Bran girl. Though, if I had my druthers, it would be all Golden Grahams all the time!
ROFL! bunnies...raisin bran...hilarious! I've had a box of that stuff in my cabinet for months!
